Padre Pio was coming from the left hand side of the room across the front. All of a sudden I heard the moving of knees and all; I didn’t know what was going on. Padre Pio had his arms around me and started kissing me on the forehead. He said, “Joey, I am so happy to see you.” When my uncle told me it was Padre Pio embracing me, I was at a loss for words because I was almost the last one in the room and nobody knew I was going to be there, not even myself! But there was still more in store for Joey Lomangino on this fateful trip. After Mass on one of the following mornings, he again found himself in the large room where he had first encountered Padre Pio in 1961. He knelt with the other men to receive the Padre’s blessing as he passed by. 1963- When I had my injury in 1947, I not only lost my eyes but I lost my sense of smell. So when I knelt down to receive Padre Pio’s blessing, and got the fragrance of roses that came from the wounds in his hands, I was startled and went against the wall with my arms up to protect myself; I didn’t know what it was. Padre Pio pulled down my hand and said in Italian, “Joey, don’t be afraid.” He then touched me on the bridge of my nose and my sense of smell was restored to me after being without it from the day of my accident in June 1947, which was 16 years.
PADRE PIO LETTER TO THE VISIONARIES On March 3, 1962, a letter arrived in Garabandal addressed to all four visionaries. It was written in Italian, and had an Italian stamp, but wasn't postmarked. Nor was it signed. By the handwriting, and the style of the letter, it was clear it could have only come from Padre Pio. The letter said: "My Dear Children, "At nine o'clock this morning the Holy Virgin told me to say to you: 'O Blessed young girls of San Sebastian de Garabandal! I promise you that I will be with you until the end of the centuries, and you will be with Me during the end of the world and later, united with Me in the Glory of Paradise.' I am sending you a copy of the Holy Rosary of Fatima, which the Virgin told me to send you. The Rosary was composed by the Virgin and should be propagated for the salvation of sinners and preservation of humanity from the terrible punishments with which the good God is threatening it. I give you only one counsel: PRAY and get others to pray, because the world is at the beginning of perdition. They do not believe in you or in your conversations with the Lady in White. BUT THEY WILL BELIEVE YOU WHEN IT WILL BE TOO LATE" View attachment 889
Garabandal , The Blessed Mother speaks of Abortion: Among the fulfilled prophecies of Garabandal was one that only came to light with the publication of a German book [Garabandal — Der Zeigefinger Gottes.] on Garabandal in 1992. The author, Albrecht Weber, was in Garabandal on the day after Conchita's last apparition at Garabandal on November 13,1965, and had a long conversation with the visionary. The following excerpt from his book deals with some of what the visionary told him: She [Conchita] spoke quite openly about the developments by which men in the near future would rebel against God. On the day after Our Lady's last appearance at Garabandal, Conchita asked the author, "Can you imagine how somebody could kill children in the womb without thereby killing the mother?" The author spontaneously answered, "No! What gave you that idea, Conchita?" "Well, the Blessed Mother spoke about this and she let me know that this will happen with the overflowing of the chalice." [In her second Message of June 18,1965, the Virgin said, "Before, the cup was filling up. Now it is flowing over."] Conchita said this tremblingly without being able to visualize what it really implied. She said further that it disturbed her very much but that she felt ridiculous because she hadn't understood at all how this killing could be effected. The Blessed Virgin had not explained it to her and up until that moment, nobody had been able to make her understand it at all. Conchita would learn soon enough when abortion became legalized, even in her native country. The Blessed Virgin had spoken about this unfortunate practice to the visionary, in terms that had left her stunned. Indeed, at the time, Conchita did not understand "how it was possible to kill a child in his (or hers) mother's womb without killing the mother at the same time . . .!" THE "CONDITIONAL" CHASTISEMENT (PART 1 OF 2 ) What happens after the Warning and Miracle will depend on the response to the Message. Of the three great prophesied supernatural events of Garabandal, only the Chastisement is conditional. It can be averted. Whether or not it will be depends entirely on how the world responds to the Message after the Warning and Miracle. In biblical times, God used the prophets to warn His people when their transgressions against the law were reaching the breaking point. In our time, it is the Blessed Virgin, queen of prophets, who fulfills that role. At Fatima she foretold the Second World War and the spread of atheistic communism if the world did not change. At Garabandal, she warns of the greatest cataclysm in human history since the deluge if mankind does not reform. While the Chastisement has never been the favorite topic for discussion when it comes to Garabandal, it was primarily to warn us of this potential event that the Blessed Virgin appeared. This is supported by the fact that in the first Message of October 18, 1961, the message of Garabandal, the whole second part, more than fifty percent of the text of the entire Message, is devoted to the Chastisement. The first part tells us what we must do to prevent it from happening. In the second Message of June 18, 1965, delivered to Conchita by St. Michael on behalf of the Virgin, reference to the Chastisement is again made when Our Lady says: "Before the cup was filling up; now it is flowing over....You should turn the wrath of God away from yourselves by your efforts. " Neither the Warning nor the Miracle are mentioned in the two formal Messages, but they play an important role nonetheless in regard to the Chastisement. If it is true that God always warns before He strikes, then the world should know of the threat of this Chastisement which at the present time it does not. But after the worldwide Warning and the great Miracle, the appearances of the Blessed Virgin at Garabandal, with her Message (containing the threat of a Chastisement), should become common knowledge. It will be at this point, when the Message is universally known, that the way will be cleared for the Chastisement to take place if that is what divine justice decrees. In his book THE APPARITIONS OF GARABANDAL, Francisco Sanchez-Venture y Pascual includes the following note written by Conchita about the Chastisement: The Chastisement is conditional and depends on whether or not mankind heeds the messages of the Blessed Virgin and the Miracle. If it should take place, I know what it will consist of because the Blessed Virgin told me about it, but I am not permitted to say what it is. Moreover, I have seen the Chastisement. I can assure you that if it comes, it will be worse than being enveloped in fire, worse than having fire above and beneath you. I do not know how much time will elapse between the Miracle and the Chastisement. On the feast of the Holy Rosary, October 7, 1962, Maria Herrero de Gallardo was in Garabandal and took the occasion to question Mari Loli about the visions of June 19-20, 1962 (the Nights of the Screams), and what she and the other visionaries could possibly have seen to cause them to cry out in such a terrifying manner. Sefiora Herrero reported: "Oh!" exclaimed the girl. "That was horrible to see. We were really frightened, and I know no words that could explain it. We saw rivers change into blood.... Fire fell from the sky.... And something much worse still, which I'm not able to reveal now." (SHE WENT IN HASTE TO THE MOUNTAIN) Further information from Loli was contained in messages bearing her signature that were presented to Maria Saraco and published in 1970 by Fernand Corteville in his newsletter L'Impartial (No.31): In spite of continuing to see the Virgin, (during the Nights of the Screams) we saw a great multitude of people who were suffering intensely and screaming in terror. The Blessed Virgin explained to us that this great tribulation, which was not even the Chastisement, would come because a time would arrive when the Church would appear to be on the point of perishing. It would pass through a terrible trial. We asked the Virgin what this great trial was called and she told us it was "Communism." Then she showed us how the great Chastisement for all mankind would come, and that it would come directly from God. At a certain moment, not a single motor or machine would function; a terrible heat wave will strike the earth and men will begin to feel a great thirst. In desperation they will seek water, but this will evaporate from the heat. Then almost everyone will despair and they will seek to kill one another. But they will lose their strength and fall to the ground. Then it will be understood that it is God alone Who has permitted this. Then we saw a crowd in the midst of flames. The people ran to hurl themselves into the lakes and seas. But the water seemed to boil, and instead of putting out the flames, it seemed to enkindle them even more. It was so horrible that I asked the Blessed Virgin to take all the young children with her before all this happened. But the Virgin told us that by the time it came, they would all be adults.
THE "CONDITIONAL" CHASTISEMENT (PART 2 OF 2 ) The four visionaries from left: Jacinta, Mari Cruz, Conchita, and Mari-Loli in 1962. WILL IT HAPPEN? According to the first Message of Our Lady, the Chastisement is conditional and can be averted. However, if history repeats itself, as it usually does, then it's hard to see it not happening. Both at La Salette and Fatima conditions were given by Our Lady that, if met, would forestall the impending threatened punishments. The warnings were not heeded and the rest is history. Did the Chastisement change from being conditional to unavoidable during the events themselves? The first Message of Our Lady delivered on October 18, 1961, had virtually no effect, and so after the first night of screams on June 19, 1962, Mari Loli and Jacinta wrote a message which was followed a few days later by a second one. These messages can only be described as dire. On August 7, 1971, in a message to American Garabandal workers, Conchita twice made reference to the Chastisement and her belief that it would indeed take place: We are now in the last warnings, in the final moments. God has already prepared us for all the last things, even the Chastisement, for it is needed. The Chastisement must come because the Miracle will not suffice by itself to make us change. It is true that we will change after seeing the Miracle, but then we will fall again. That is why all of us who hear these words should prepare ourselves and induce all those around us, all those within our reach, to change their lives... ...However, it will not be possible to avoid the Chastisement because we have now lost even the sense of sin. We have reached such an extremity that God cannot now avoid sending the Chastisement. We need it for our own good. Those who survive the Chastisement will change very much and then we shall live for God until the end of time, which will also arrive.[OUR LADY COMES TO GARABANDAL, by Joseph Pelletier, A.A.] Regarding the above statements of Conchita, which the visionary herself acknowledged were only her own opinion, Father Joseph Pelletier had this to say: "Conchita's opinion...must always be considered as strictly her own. No matter how much one may be tempted to agree with her position on the matter, that position does not reflect Our Lady's very precise words which always have presented the Chastisement as conditional, as a thing that can be avoided. Let us heed Conchita and not attach an importance to her words that they do not warrant. What Our Lady has said is one thing. What Conchita conjectures will happen, may very well happen. But it is always her conjecture and she could be wrong." [OUR LADY COMES TO GARABANDAL, by Joseph Pelletier, A.A.] That certainly is a fair analysis. In fact, when interviewed by Father Francis Benac, S.J., in 1978, [THE CALL OF GARABANDAL] Conchita expressed a different view: Father Benac: We read in the books [on Garabandal] that on that night of the screams, Our Lady advised that nobody should be around you, that she wanted you girls to be all alone. Could you explain that? Was it about the Chastisement? Did you see it and if so, how would you describe it? Conchita: Oh I don't know; I don't remember. I don't want to remember. Benac: Would you mind repeating that? Conchita: No, that I don't want to even remember it, it was so terrible. Benac: Would it be a Chastisement such as an atomic war? Conchita: I don't know; I have never seen such a thing in my life nor could I imagine it. Benac: Do you think the Chastisement can be averted with prayer? Conchita: I think so. I don't think that it should take place; I think it won't happen. It seems to me that it would be impossible for such a thing to happen. It is for this reason that I believe God is sending us the Aviso (Warning) so that we may acknowledge all the evil within us. Later He will send us the Miracle to manifest His love and His presence amongst us.....I feel that it is impossible that after this we should not change. However, two years later in 1980, when Conchita was interviewed by the BBC, she again expressed her view that the Chastisement would come: "I think we're going to get the punishment." Another statement made by her suggests that it's a foregone conclusion: "Prior to this, the Blessed Virgin had told me that Jesus is not going to send the Chastisement to discourage us, but to help us and to reprimand us for not heeding Him."[OUR LADY COMES TO GARABANDAL ] OTHER SOURCES Blessed Anna-Maria Taigi saw a future "Three Days of Darkness" which is generally believed to be the same event as the Chastisement prophesied at Garabandal. Blessed Elizabeth Canorii-Mora, a contemporary of Blessed Anna Maria, also saw this same event. While all this points to the actuality of the Chastisement, it nevertheless still can be avoided simply because the Blessed Virgin said so. Much must happen first: the communist tribulation, the Warning and the Miracle. According to Conchita's locution with Jesus on June 21, 1963, He told her that as a result of the Miracle, Russia and other countries would be converted. This seems to suggest that if the Chastisement does come, it will not be for a while although we really don't know. FINAL REFLECTIONS In November, 1967, Spanish artist Isabel Daganzo, who wanted to commit to canvas representational images of the visions of Garabandal, had a number of interviews with Conchita while the visionary was at school in Burgos. One of the questions she asked was: "Could you speak about something that I could put on canvas that could cause fear?" Conchita replied: "No. What I have seen that could cause fear is the Chastisement, and I can't tell you about that. Besides, terror and fear are not the best means to move souls." This shows good insight on the part of Conchita. To dwell too much on the destructive nature of the Chastisement could lead to moroseness and would oppose a healthy spiritual outlook. Everything happens within the providence of God even the Chastisement if it should come. If it does happen, it will be because that is the best and most necessary thing to happen at that particular time. And even in this cataclysmic event can be seen divine mercy. If the glory of God in the world is on the verge of being overwhelmed by evil, He will intervene to preserve the good. (SHE WENT IN HASTE TO THE MOUNTAIN ) Loli on Communism: Mrs. [Christine] Bocabeille then asked Mari Loli: "If you are not allowed to tell me the exact year [of the Warning], perhaps you could tell me approximately when it will happen." "Yes, it will be at that time when the world will most need it." "When is that?" "When Russia will unexpectedly and suddenly overrun and overwhelm a great part of the free world. God does not want this to happen so quickly. In any case the Warning will come when you will see that Holy Mass cannot be celebrated freely anymore; then it will be that the world will most need the intervention of God." From the book :[SHE WENT IN HASTE TO THE MOUNTAIN] Conchita has said that communism will return to Spain, [Garabandal Nuevo Pentecostes, 1984.] On February 23, 1943, Sister Lucy, the sole surviving seer of the Fatima apparitions who spent 21 years in Spain at Tuy and Pontevedra, sent a statement to Bishop Antonio Garcia of Tuy-Vigo which read: “If the bishops of Spain listen to the desires already manifested by Our Lord, and begin a true reform of the people and clergy, then it I will go well. But if not, she (Russia) will again be the enemy by which God will punish her once more” According to Garabandal, communism will again be a force to be reckoned with in one final attempt at world domination. On September 29, 1978, Father Francis Benac, S.J., interviewed Mari Loli at her home in Massachusetts. Here are some of the questions and answers pertinent to our subject. FATHER BENAC: Did the Blessed Virgin speak of communism? MARI LOLI: Our Lady spoke several times about communism. I don't remember how many times, but she said that a time would come when it would seem that communism had mastered or engulfed the whole world. I think it was then that she told us that priests would have difficulty saying Mass, and talking about God and divine things. Thisexcerpt is taken from the German book by Albrecht Weber, Garabandal—Der Zeigefinger Gottes (Garabandal—The Finger of God) (2): Conchita told the author in 1965 when everything would be set in motion: "When communism comes again everything will happen." The author responded: "What do you mean by comes again?" "Yes, when it newly comes again," she replied. "Does that mean that communism will go away before that?" "I don't know," she said in reply, "the Blessed Virgin simply said 'when communism comes again'." Interview with Mari Loli. October 19, 1982 Q. Do you remember what the Blessed Mother said about the communist tribulation that is to precede the Warning? A. It would look like the communists would have taken over the whole world and it would be very hard to practice the religion, for priests to say Mass or for people to open the doors of the churches. Q. Is that what you meant when you said that it would seem as though the Church had disappeared? A. Yes. Q. It would be because of the persecution and not because the people would stop practising their religion? A. Yes, but I guess a lot of people will stop. Whoever practises it will have to go into hiding. Q. Will this only be in Europe or do you think it will be here in the United States as well? A. I don't know because for me at that time, Europe was the whole world. I just assumed it was that way. The Blessed Mother didn't specify in what place. To me it looked like it was everywhere. Q. Approximately 67% of the earth s land is now dominated by communism. Do you think that's sufficient to fulfil Our Lady s prophecy? A. I really don't know. It sounded to me like it would be more than that. Q. In other words you think it will be worse than it is now? A. That's what I thought from what she said but I really don't know exactly. To me it looked like it was every place out there, the places I saw in my mind. In a lot of countries in Europe you can still practice your religion. Q. So, the situation in the world is not bad enough for the Warning to happen? A. The Warning is not going to happen yet so it's probably going to get worse. Q. You said that it would be very difficult for priests to say Mass. Was this something that the Blessed Mother told you or was it something that you thought yourself because of the communist tribulation? A. From what I remember, it was something she said. Q. And the Virgin said that it would seem as though the Church had disappeared ? A. "yes"
View attachment 1136 KISSED MEDALS (An actual piece of missal kissed by Our Lady of Mount Carmel is in this medal ) The kissing of objects started early in the apparitions and was considered vital by Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Garabandal. She often kissed rosaries, crucifixes, medals and wedding rings. Missals were also among these sacramentals. Our Lady would fan the pages as she kissed the missals, thereby kissing all the pages. The kissing of these objects was the principle purpose of her very last visit at Garabandal on November 13, 1965. Many months in advance Our Lady told Conchita that the kissing of objects would take place at the pines on this date. Our Lady told Conchita to distribute these objects because they have great importance. These articles not only have the special distinction of Our Lady’s kiss but two special graces were attached to them. Our Lady said, “Through the kiss I bestow on these objects, my Son will perform prodigies. Distribute them to others.” “Those who wear them with faith and devotion will do their purgatory on earth.” An actual piece of missal kissed by Our Lady of Mount Carmel is in this medal. It carries the same promise as any other object kissed by Our Lady at Garabandal. These small medals should be regarded as a precious gift and handled with the utmost respect. The medals distributed by the New York Center are made from the remaining pages of Conchita’s missal with a design she approved. I would like to address a topic that was raised here a few days ago ( on another board ) about "blessed religious objects " being touched to " KISSED religious objects by Mary. To affirm my beliefs, I reached out yesterday to two people . One is Barry Hanratty who wrote a majority of the articles for Garabandal magazines around the world, whom I know personally from working with at the NY Center. He is the foremost authority on Garabandal that I know of ( he knows even more than me,lol ). I asked if the promise of prodigies of a kissed medal could be transferred to "blessed objects" if touched, and was that PROMISED BY MARY ? Here is his response: "According to Conchita, Our Lady never said the graces of a kissed object could be transferred to another object, however, Dr. Mike Rozeluk of Canada who has a large medal that was touched to Joey's medal, has had some remarkable results in his Garabandal conferences both in North America and the Ukraine. So here's one case where the transfer did take place." Next I called Conchita herself. She said that Our Lady NEVER said the promises of the kissed objects carry over to the " touched " ones. If they did , this was a grace from Mary that may have happened, but was not promised. I hope this clarifies this topic. (1-12-14 )
MARY & THE ROSARY In the apparitions of Garabandal, the Virgin would spend so much time instructing the children on how to pray it well. Most notably, She taught the girls how to say that rosary "properly, and slowly", and recited the rosary together during each apparition. Joseph Pelletier writes; "From a series of questions sent to Conchita in April, 1969, it was learned that Our Lady 'ordered - mando' the children to recite the rosary each time they saw her and that they actually did recite it during every apparition.". He later added; "The girls said the rosary in ecstasy as they walked the village streets, entered the homes of the sick, visited the cemetery, and walked around the church....She taught the girls to say all their prayers (and not only the rosary) slowly and thoughtfully. Tape recordings of the girls praying in ecstasy show us exactly what Our Lady wanted from the children and from us. These tapes show the girls praying very, very slowly, articulating each word carefully..." (jp210) Conchita, diary , jp89: "The rosary is a very important part of the Blessed Virgin's message"..."She recited the prayer very slowly--muy lento" Conchita, diary, jp65: "When we arrived at the altar...she started to say the Creed very slowly with the Blessed Virgin. Mari Cruz said that the Blessed Virgin took the lead and recited the prayer first, in order to teach her how to pray slowly. MARY'S VOICE IS HEARD ! August 4,1961 OUR BLESSED MOTHER'S VOICE IS HEARD! Conchita recounts the the story in the book "Our Lady comes to Garabandal" . She said " I was returning from the fields,we met my Godmother Maximina Gonzalez,she was very excited and said this to us "Do you know the voice of the Blessed Virgin has been heard on a taperecorder ?" " What did she say I asked ? " She replied " Loli and Jacinta asked her (The Blessed Virgin) "Speak, Please Speak" and the people heard an answer : " No, I wont speak " . My Godmother told me that people began to cry because they were very moved at having heard the Blessed Virgin's voice. You can download this story from the book ,on page 29. And I asked her, "What did She say? And She..." —Conchita's Diary We have additional details about this episode that Conchita mentions but did not witness, since she had to go far away from the village to the pastures to earn with difficulty her daily bread. It should not be imagined that the life of the visionaries had been changed into a continual celebration of wonders, or that due to the ecstasies they had been dispensed from all work and trouble. It was rather the contrary, and after many sleepless nights in vigils that could exhaust the strongest, they had to begin the new day very early during the summertime and work like all the other village girls. In her diary entry, Conchita is alluding to the following episode: On that August day, Mari Loli and Jacinta had another apparition in the morning at the Pines. They were presenting medals and rosaries to kiss as usual, oscillating back and forth and falling. Then on their knees they were carrying on a dialogue; in it Jacinta was heard to say: "Conchita has already come. They cut her braids in Santander. She's very pretty and tanned from going to the beach." When they came out of the ecstasy, they answered questions from the people around them. And one of the crowd, who had brought a tape recorder, let them hear some of the things recorded on the tape; among these were phrases that they themselves had spoken in ecstasy. The girls were amazed since they had never heard anything like this. The stranger explained how the recorder worked and did some demonstrations during which he handed them the microphone. "If you see the Virgin again, tell Her to talk through here." Soon the girls fell into ecstasy again and Mari Loli, who was still holding the microphone in her hand when the ecstasy overtook her, began to converse with the Virgin: "A man came with a thing that takes down everything, everything that is said. Why don't You say something so that everyone can hear you, so that the people will believe? Go ahead, say something. Yes, talk. Say something. Not for us— so that the people believe." Eventually the ecstasy ended. What the girls had said to the Apparition was played back on the tape recorder for them to hear. And at the moment where they stopped telling her to speak, an ineffable voice was heard— the witnesses classified it most sweet— that said: "No, I will not speak." Loli and Jacinta exclaimed together, "Oh! That's the voice of the Virgin!" Everyone was very excited. As Maximina said to Conchita, "The people cried because they heard the Virgin's voice." This is something exceptional. The owner of the tape recorder (Angel Dominguez Borreguero, director of the Psychiatric Hospital of Salamanca) shouted, "I will send this to the pope!" Naturally the people wanted to hear the marvelous voice again so they played the tape again, but at the proper place they heard nothing. They came down from the Pines somewhat bewildered, talking of what had happened. They replayed the tape in Mari Cruz's home. And once again everybody could hear the mysterious voice. And again the girls said the voice was the Virgin's. She was not heard after that. But the witnesses of that unique experience have not forgotten. All kept in their heart what one of them expressed while coming down from Garabandal, "I will go to the grave with the conviction of having heard the Virgin's voice." This occurrence cannot be taken lightly since there are twelve signed witnesses to it. We would all be overjoyed to be able to hear the truly unique voice of Our Lady. But we must recognize that that would be too much of a gift for our sinful ears, which are ordinarily so open for voices and words opposed to those of the Virgin. Now we should live with hope and a desire to give a spiritual resonance to the beautiful supplication that the liturgy teaches us to direct to the Virgin with words from the Song of Solomon (2:14): "Let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is comely." August 4 was profuse with wonders. If the tape recording had occurred in the morning, in the evening occurred another series of remarkable phenomena beginning at 8:00 P.M., first at the Pines and later in the church. Again Loli and Jacinta were the participants. Conchita and her mother, Aniceta, who had been working from early morning harvesting hay far from the village, returned straight home to rest awhile and finish their housework. At a late hour Maximina went to see them. When she arrived, Aniceta was saying to her daughter, "You troublemaker! Don't you see that your apparitions aren't true? Why hasn't the Virgin called you today like the others?" The child answered very seriously, "You want me to tell you all about the ecstasies of the other girls?" "Yes," exclaimed Maximina, "tell us about them. Tell us about them since I've just come from seeing them." Then Conchita explained in detail everything that had happened, with the stops that the visionaries had made and the things they had done. On hearing this, Maximina said, "My hair is standing on end. Oh! This is fantastic! That's exactly how it happened." Maximina later related more details: Then Aniceta said to me, "But Conchita has been with me all this time shut up in the house." She turned to Conchita and asked her, "How can this be?" "This is how," Conchita replied. "While I was in the front room, I felt the Virgin calling me by my name, and She told me everything that the others were doing and where they were walking. And I know more, what the others don't yet know, what the Virgin told me. She told me that we would hear a voice, and then we were to go where it took us."

MARY ON VATICAN II (RUMOR) The Virgin's messages were a warning that post-Vatican II changes in the Church would lead to its ruin. At no time during any of the apparitions did the Virgin say or imply this. To the contrary, when Conchita asked the Blessed Mother about the outcome of the Council, the response was unequivocal. Conchita was heard to say: "The Council, is it the greatest of all?... Will it be a success?... How good!... That way they will know you better, and you will be very happy... ." [Garcia de Pesquera, O.F.M., Cap., Eusebio (trans. by Barry Miller), She Went in Haste to the Mountain, Lindenhurst, N.Y: The Workers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel de Garabandal (2000 ed.), p. 436.] From these utterances, it is impossible to imagine that the Virgin was not indicating that the Council would be a success. In the intervening years, observers have noted - and with good reason - that not all the Council's changes had their intended effects, and further, some may even have wrought more immediate confusion than good. However, the Council itself was a marked success, and, somewhat ironically, not the least in its formulation of a coherent Marian doctrine! Certainly there are those who still feel the post-Vatican II changes are bringing or will bring about the ruin of the Church, and they read into the Blessed Mother's words and actions a warning against the reforms of the Council. One sentence in particular, her warning that "Many cardinals, many bishops, and many priests are on the path of perdition and they take many souls with them" is cited in support of this position. However, this should by no means be taken as a blanket statement regarding the direction the Church itself was heading in, nor was it a condemnation of the recently concluded Council. In fact, such a view flies in the face of Christ's own words, that even "the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it" [Matthew 16:18.]. The Church since its very beginning has undergone numerous changes, some better accepted or understood than others. In the case of Vatican II, there has been some debate as to the impact of some of these changes four decades on, but, on the whole, the reforms have spelt the revitalisation, not the ruin, of the Church. As with all of Mary's words , they speak of a final outcome she sees. In the case of Vatican II, maybe we have not seen its final effect yet.

MARY ANNONCES THERE WILL BE DISBLIEF AND DOUBTS After the visionaries came out of ecstasy, the onlookers wanted to know, as usual, what the Vision had said to them: "What did the Virgin tell you this time?" The girls looked at each other as if in consultation. Their interrogators pressed them: "Well, tell us!" "We don't understand very well," they replied. "Well tell us just the same." The girls said that the Virgin has told them: "A time will come when all four of you will contradict yourselves about the visions; when your families will have doubts about them; when you too will doubt and even deny them." "Is that all?" "No. The Virgin added, 'In this way you will establish among yourselves the same confusion that now exists in the Church.'" (By the way,not to worry, In the 1980 BBC tv interview Conchita affirms : I believe very strongly ! " )
MARY: NO WORLD WAR 3 The first source of reference is Joey Lomangino who has known the visionary since 1963. Joey vividly recalls Conchita telling him that the Virgin said there would not be a third world war. According to Joey, there may be skirmishes or limited wars between countries but not a global conflict. A second source of reference is Anne Mequeli from Brentwood, New York. Anne, a dedicated worker for the New York Center Scapular Committee, is a good friend of Conchita’s and frequently attends the visionary’s weekly holy hour to ‘pray for priests’. She gives the following testimony: One night in Conchita’s house, everyone was talking about the ‘Cuban Crisis’ when Conchita said to me, “At that time in my village, all the people feared a third world war and everyone had radios close to their ears waiting to hear of such a war. But I had an apparition at the time and the Blessed Virgin told me, ‘No World War Three.” Third source of reference is a taped conversation between Conchita and Bishop Franciso Garmendia, Auxillary Bishop of New York, on August 27, 1981. In answer to the Bishop’s question about the ‘end of times,’ Conchita responded: “I don’t know if you remember but in France they were saying that in 1962 world war would break out—she (The Virgin) told us that there would never be another world war. Everybody, in fact, was frightened that day, including me, when the Virgin appeared and said, “Don’t be afraid because there will never be a world war.” I had a thought. (this is just my opinion) . Clearly in WW1 & WW2, the world was equally divided, you were either on one side or the other politically. The Middle East ( which has been fighting since the beginning of time it seems) and other countries, like Korea, seem to be headed there again . It is possible to have multiple large scale wars ,but for different reasons. Obviously, the Middle East war , might not have anything to do with a conflict in Korea, or between Russia & the US. It is possible to have the world at war but not in the sense of the world equally divided as it was with WW1 & WW2.

( Albecht Weber with Conchita in 1965 ) The conversations between the deceased Father Luis and the visionaries have, it appears to us, always held a very positive ecumenical trait. On the Feast, then, of the Divine Motherhood of Mary, Fr. Luis and Conchita spoke about this extraordinary prophecy already partly revealed by Our Lady on the previous October 1: "Ah, the Churches will be reunited? . . . “Yes, they will be reunited! . . ." Conchita rejoiced over this formidable prophetic news. In November 1965, the visionary, as she had already done many times since October 11, 1961, confirmed the accuracy of that great revelation to the German editor, Albrecht Weber. She also clarified somewhat what the Blessed Virgin had told her concerning the great Church event to come. "She (Our Lady) again told us that the divided (Churches) will reunite. There will be only one 'religion.' A better translation: "The Christian Churches will then be One in the Catholic Church." In the light of such a prophetic revelation, the meaning and scope of the "one, Catholic, apostolic and Roman Church" that the visionaries, in ecstasy, had professed for the first time on August 1, 1961, at the time of the recitation of the Creed, acquired their full significance. CONCHITA & THE VATICAN The Church has always taken the events of Garabandal seriously. Conchita Gonzalez, twice has been summoned to Rome. The first time was in January, 1966, when she was called there by Cardinal Alfredo Ottaviani, prefect of the Holy Office (now called the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) where she was interrogated by members of the Holy Office. It was during this trip that she was received by His Holiness Pope Paul VI in a private audience. And it is an incontrovertible fact that he told the visionary, "I bless you and with me the whole Church blesses you." It was also during this trip to Italy for Conchita that she went to San Giovanni Rotondo where she was warmly received by Padre Pio.
