In the US you can do this with a masters degree--as a teaching assistant in a doctoral program or as an adjunct in community colleges usually.

Dear Josephite in some community colleges, such as SUNY colleges, their faculty structure does include the ranks of instructor, assistant professor, associate professor and professor.

The State University of New York, Community College Title List

When you search by college you find a listing of all titles and general salary, but not by individual faculty name.

Therefore, what is written in Countdown to the Kingdom is correct:

    Daniel O'Connor is:

a professor of philosophy and religion
( it is possible that he has a rank of professor since the college where he works uses the academic ranking system (instructor, assistant, associate, and full professor)

for a State University of New York (SUNY) college. This is true since SUNY includes its colleges like Hudson Valley Community College.

Applause. Exactly. This is about t Daniel O'Connor's answer to Dr. Miravilla's comments about Fr. Rodrigue.

I don't know if the Church has any doctrine on demons in Purgatory. I don't see how they could know. I am just pointing out in Daniel O'conner's response he points to St. Faustina's visions of purgatory. I will bold some parts.

Unfortunately, Dr. Miravalle’s sixth objection is itself subject to grave errors. First, Miravalle refers to “the concept that devils exist permanently in Purgatory.” This is an intrinsically contradictory statement, as Purgatory is essentially temporary (it is Church dogma that Purgatory ceases to exist upon the General Judgment), and therefore referring to anything having a “permanent” position in Purgatory is meaningless. More problematic, however, is Dr. Miravalle’s implicit assertion that it is heresy to refer to demons having a role to play in Purgatory; as such an assertion condemns no less an authority than St. Faustina herself as a heretic.

In §412 of her fully approved revelations, St. Faustina writes of one of her own visions of Purgatory, saying:

I saw the souls who were doing penance in purgatory. They appeared like shadows, and among them I saw many demons.

Shortly after, in §426, Faustina describes the Purgatory of a certain soul who had been particularly mired in sin, and goes on to say, “I can find no words or comparisons to express such terrible things. And although it seems to me that this soul is not damned, nevertheless its torments are in no way different from the torments of hell; there is only this difference: that they will someday come to an end.” Obviously, if the only difference between Purgatory and Hell for a given poor soul is the merely temporary nature of the former, then one can conclude that the demons do have some role to play in at least some levels of Purgatory.

Indeed, in Purgatory there is Faith, Hope, and Charity. There is even great joy, I would argueas all souls there are dearly beloved to God and know they are saved! Furthermore, there is no more sin and no more temptation in Purgatory. But there is little Church Dogma on the nature of the details of the experience in Purgatory, and there certainly are no theological grounds to rule out the possibility that, at least in Purgatory’s lower levels, the demons themselves could be allowed to carry out a purifyingnot a temptingrole. Fr. Michel clearly said that the demons were only allowed this purifying role in Purgatorynot the tempting role they so often play on earth.

Dr. Miravalle’s willingness to condemn Fr. Michel as a heretic (claiming that Fr. Michel’s teaching here is “substantially incompatible with authentic Catholic doctrine” is tantamount to an accusation of heresy) for asserting the exact same thing that St. Faustina asserted, and to encourage his readers to trust this condemnation on account of his own subjective take on the “overall tone and tenor of the Church’s Mystical Tradition,” is a serious overstep. Indeed, throughout his article, Miravalle cites no actual Church Teachings to bolster his claims that Fr. Michel’s messages allegedly violate them, but only requests his readers to trust his own subjective take on the “general mystical tradition.”

Exactly. Presently he is considered a doctoral candidate, when O'Connor passes his comprehensive examinations, then he is called ABD, All But Dissertation. When he completes his dissertation, and is accepted by his Committee, then he has earned his doctorate, PhD. At least here in the U.S.

For HH and Christy from a response on Emmett O’Reagan’s blog. Most are not in accordance with his interpretations or yours:

“Emmett, I know you have said you disagree with Fr. Ianuzzi and Daniel O'Connor and the Divine Will movement because you say they believe in a Milleniarist thousand year reign of Christ on Earth, but Fr. Michel Rodriguez' videos and posts found at CountdowntotheKingdom.com, a website which also does promote Luisa Picarreta's revelations are compelling to me. I wanted to ask you, Emmett, about Fr. Rodriguez because I do not see him promoting a milleniarist viewpoint, but rather he talks about a period of peace which is only going to last 6 weeks after the Warning. So, Emmett, are you really putting Fr. Rodriguez in the same pot with the milleniarists??? And, Emmett, do you think it could be that the period of peace Mary promised is only 6 weeks? ”

So what if he never receives a PhD........ is he still a professor?

If he is, I'm glad I live in Australia, and we are part of the commonwealth, which have tighter controls as to who is titled as a professor!

I watched one of Amazing Polly's latest videos, where she states that a number of the orchestrators of the Covid 19 restrictions, claim to be Doctors! but in fact are not.......Maybe they got a degree or masters at the Hudson Valley Community College.

  8. So there no official Church Teaching that there is or no demons in Purgatory then?

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Thank you Booklady. I was beginning to think I was loosing the plot.

The thread has turned into a debate on who is who in the academic world.

It is worthy to note that Saint Paul and Saint Luke who are known to have been intellectuals only came on board after the initial twelve chosen Apostles. This tells me the humble fisherman has a better chance of discerning Gods plan in our lives, and the intellectuals only come on board after watching from afar.

Intellectual snobbery only holds people back spiritually. IMHO

Another comment HH from Emmett O’ Regan’s blog:

Obviously the writer has never read Father Ianuzzi or Dan O'Connor. They are not millianarists....They DO NOT Believe Christ will physically return. Only that the Church will enjoy an era of Peace and there will be One Church with One Flock. Does not sound bad to me. NOWHERE in ANY of their writings do they talk about Jesus Christ making an actual return to rule for 1,000 years. So I have to say read the material before you bash someone. Just because you do not understand what they write, does not mean you can condemn it. MMP said the same things in the Book "To My Priests" ....so are you going to make similar incorrect allegations??? Can not believe a word you print if you can be so wrong on this account.

I guess Sister Faustina, let alone St Theresa of Avila don’t count for some.

I have no dog in this hunt. Truly. There may be. There may not be. I hope there are not. But there is no OFFICIAL position from the Church on this issue as I understand it. I am most willing to be proved wrong.

You are right is has been derailed.

Don't want to continue to derail this interesting thread with U.S. Education customs, but there are states in the U.S., Florida being one of these, which not only offer the first two years of undergraduate education, but also offer bachelor degrees in certain fields, like Education and Nursing.

This initiative to enlarge the mission of community colleges to colleges, is one based on economics.

This is Dr. Miravelle's objection, which I think he objects to devils existing permanently in purgatory which is inconsistent with the Church's doctrine on purgatory being temporary.

The concept that devils exist permanently in Purgatory and are carrying out a purifying function in Purgatory as part of the providence of God is substantially incompatible with the authentic Catholic doctrine on the nature of Purgatory.
