A friend of mine was asking me about Garabandal. A topic I love discussing.
I spoke about the " 4 more popes " line from Conchita.
"Oh yes" said my friend, "the end of the world thingy."
"Not exactly", I replied, " it's a greatly misunderstood phrase ". I then filled him in on what Conchita actually said, liking it to the end of an era, rather than the end of the world.

In the above article, from the Popes own mouth:

"We are not living an era of change but a change of era."

    Whhhaaaaaat!!!!? Are you serious?

This Pope, Pope Francis, is the 5th Pope. Incredible!!!!!! Did any one else notice this?
Glenn, you mentioned before that the warning and miracle would happen under this Pope:

You may well be right. More and more, my faith in Garabandal increases.
Pope Francis is making me uncomfortable. But I'm trusting in Gods plan in all of this.
    Prayers for our Pope please.

Slagging each other off is not discussion. Nor is it charitable.

As the old Irish wisdom I heard from Fr Leo Clifford on ewtn

    Tis an ol Irish expression
when makin Peace with an enemy
    Let us burry the hatchet
    but mark the spot
    if we need it again

So so so funny and sooooooooooo true
May Fr Clifford rest in Jesus Eternal Peace

  9. Early on I was worried about this Pope... Then i decided, he knows better than I. I need to follow him and his lead. I love this Pope and the generosity of his heart. But ... WOW... am I the only one who gets uneasy reading this? Please tell me yes, it is just you, this is fine.

It is a bit unsettling, for sure. Then again, everything may be taken as quite orthodox. I think if he spoke more of recovering the poverty of spirit, humility, love, and zeal of the early Christians, which, reading the remarks in context, is probably the gist of what he is (hopefully) getting at, the remarks would be less unsettling. When he talks about Catholicism "changing", it is unclear and it could be taken in many different ways, not all of them good.

There is much talk of mercy and love for neighbor. But much silence on the slaughter of Christians and the unborn.

But who am I to question?

Ok, nothing is going to change, so let's place a friendly bet. I'll bet you $250 to your favorite charity that, by the end of the year of mercy, 1) the pope will attempt to devolve authority to local bishops' conferences or individual bishops to decide whether 2) those who are divorced and remarried can, without an annulment or living as brother and sister, be admitted to Holy Eucharist.

As a bonus, I'll bet you an additional $100 to your favorite charity that before the end of the year of mercy the pope will attempt to introduce a married priesthood to the Latin Church.

Never gonna happen? Then you've got yourself a sure bet, and I'm out some hard earned cash.

This is not a bet for or against the pope, for or against orthodoxy, for or against a change in doctrine. It's simply an attempt to get the conversation back to what is actually being discussed and whether the changes in 1) and 2) above are within the authority of a pope to make.

(But let me let you in on a little secret. I never make bets over a hundred bucks that I know I'm going to lose ;-)

PS: I told Padraig I wouldn't post till the Apostolic Exhortation was published. It was not something that was asked of me, I just thought maybe it was prudent. Unfortunately the level of uncharity here demanded earlier action. Maybe I'm wrong. If so, Padraig is free to correct me. But you are not.

Did the Pope not already give a speech in which he announced he was going to devolve authority on these issues to the local bishops conferences? I thought that happened during the 2nd week of the synod over a weekend if I am correct.

Yes, he said that's what he wanted to do, but he has not yet officially done it.

The question then becomes, since the national conference of bishops have no magisterial authority, 1) can the pope by fiat create magisterial authority for them where for 2000 years none previously existed and 2) can the pope devolve authority to local bishops' conferences or individual bishops, which would permit the remarried without an annulment, in a matter so intricately intertwined with doctrine and so well settled in universal magisterial teaching? And 3) If he does not have authority to do so, what are the implications of such an attempt ?

We really need an expert to answer these questions. not someone with self interest but a good, holy and learned Catholic priest, neither modernist or traditionalist

Many of us have already discussed this with the kind of men you describe here, multiple times just to make sure we understood them right. Which is why we're so alarmed and willing to tolerate the slings and arrows here to speak our mind. The kind of men you're describing aren't necessarily free to speak their minds, but they're begging lay people to do so.
