Gay and Transgender Catholics Urge Pope Francis to Take a Stand

    By LAURIE GOODSTEINJULY 28, 2015
Lui Akira Francesco Matsuo said he was standing in line for communion one Sunday at his Roman Catholic church in Detroit when a fellow parishioner pulled him aside: Didn’t he know that the archbishop had just urged supporters of same-sex marriage not to take communion?

Mr. Matsuo, who is transgender, left and never returned to his parish. Now, two years later, he is among a large group of gay and transgender Catholics who are seeking a meeting with Pope Francis during his first visit to the United States, in September, pushing him to take a stand on the issues of sexuality and gender that are increasingly dividing Catholics.

“I want him to extend his hand openly, especially to the transgender community,” said Mr. Matsuo, who is 28 and said he has identified as male ever since he was a toddler. “I am a practicing Catholic. I just don’t have a parish I can call home.”

    maryrose,

I like your simplicity. Stick to the Spirit's promptings and be at peace. I believe the Two Hearts will lead us according to each of our personal situations and responsibilities-toward-others. However, I would caution anyone against a bunker mentality. Charity must be the foundation of all we do.:)

    Safe in the Father's Arms!

There are still people defending them. I see posts under articles on Facebook with people defending Planned Parenthood, claiming to be Christian and "its my body, I'll do what I want" mentality. Also, saying that they accountable only to God for their actions. That would worry me more. Talk about diabolical delusion. It's disgusting.

  8. It's funny, Padraig, I was thinking just a couple of days ago that we are like the shepherds guarding the flock surprised by the angels with news beyond their comprehension. This is how I myself feel anyway. It's too big to grasp what is being announced to us. It's very humbling. What a wonderful God we have, and what a privilege to form part of Mary's army.

I'm not sure that they can actually believe in God and think abortion is ok? If they do, that conversation between God and them at the end of life will be quite the eye opener. Abortion is satans sacrament....crying for Gods judgement....

I'm not sure there is an actual conversion during judgement. I cant see God listening to someone's rationalizing their abortion or adultery or homosexual acts. The only thing we can say is we know He is right and we are sorry.

  11. Thanks for your post and for the psalms, Josephite.

I've been praying daily the Liturgy of the Hours (Divine Office) for 40 years now but in recent days I've been surprised by the incredible richness that is popping up anew from the Psalms and readings. It's like I'm hearing them for the first time.

I don't know if you are familiar with this official prayer of the Church. It is an incredible treasure. Many parishes and lay people pray at least Morning and/or Evening prayer, and it is not difficult. It takes about 10 minutes each -when prayed alone.
I would encourage everyone to try to pray with the Hours of the Church, which is basically Scripture, at this time. It seems to me that the Lord is truly so near to us and so intent in warming up our hearts into TRUST.

I know that there are applications for small devices (which I don't have and I'm illiterate about) but this is a computer version of what I'm talking about -in case you haven't experienced it before:

It is too big. A gift and a huge responsibilty. May God give us the grace to fly into His arms.

You cannot be a Christian and be for abortion period for many obvious reasons but here is a big one that many don't take into consideration. These versus of the Gospel prove to any Christian that a child in the womb is not tissue. If you are saying it is for the purpose of choice then that argument could never hold because no one would be for the parent of a 10 year old having the choice to kill.

[39] And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda. [40] And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth. [41] And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: [42] And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. [43] And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? [44] For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.

God knows us before we are born.....He is there at our conception. How can a person say they are a Christian and still say"it's my body, I can do want I want" and think abortion is okay. -

    Psalm 139:13-18
13 For thou didst form my inward parts,
thou didst knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise thee, for thou art fearful and wonderful.[a]
    Wonderful are thy works!
    Thou knowest me right well;
15 my frame was not hidden from thee,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately wrought in the depths of the earth.
    16 Thy eyes beheld my unformed substance;
in thy book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious to me are thy thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
When I awake, I am still with thee.[b]

    Peter B,

Thank you for directing us to Peli's entry. I've been blest meditating on it. I'm reminded of a passage from Exodus 17. May there always be someone there to "hold up your arms" in the days ahead!

10 So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Am'alek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; and whenever he lowered his hand, Am'alek prevailed. 12 But Moses' hands grew weary; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat upon it, and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; so his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
