These reports seem to have orginated with British Intelligence, namely GCHQ:

When I read this I said this is either treason and he will be impeached or it is total fake news. As it is turning out, it is the fake news. Appears to be fake. Information in there is being disproven.

I like how Glenn Greenwald put it: "An anonymous person, claiming to be an ex-British intel agent & working as a Dem oppo researcher, said anonymous people told him things."

The disturbing part is not so much that the Midstream Media is still peddling Fake News. The disturbing part is that according to the Media's own narrative this information was originally included as part of a classified briefing. This means that our Intelligence services are compromised in one of three ways (or maybe a combination of them):

    1. They are incompetent for even taking these claims seriously, or

    2. They are corrupted for using their reputation to peddle Trump opposition research, or

    3. They are engaged in criminal activity for leaking to the press what they claim was is classified material.

In any of the above cases, one thing is for sure: our Intelligence services are compromised - and not by Russia - and American national security has been damgaged. January 20th can't come soon enough.

Looks like the CIA was trolled by 4chan in what might just go down as the greatest Trolling in the history of the Internet:

On Tuesday, CNN published an article stating that US intelligence handed over a two-page synopsis of classified documents, which included claims that Russian operatives have compromising personal and financial information about Trump, to the president-elect and US President Barack Obama.

The information was included as an annex to a classified version of the report prepared by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence on Russian influence on the 2016 presidential election, according to CNN.

Buzzfeed picked up the story, publishing the entire dossier purportedly “prepared for political opponents of Trump by a person who is understood to be a former British intelligence agent.

The most appalling part of the dossier was the claim that Donald Trump has “personal obsessions and sexual perversion,” including graphic sex acts, and a report that the president-elect once had Russian prostitutes urinate on each other in a hotel bed that the Obamas previously shared.

Apart from sex orgies, the dossier also suggests Russian officials offered the Republican real estate magnate lucrative deals in order to win influence over him ahead of the election.

The story exploded on Twitter with the hashtag #GoldenShowers shooting up the trending charts.

Later in the day, however, an anonymous member of the chatboard on 4chan posted a refutation of the now infamous “golden showers” story, calling it a hoax and “fanfiction.” He or she claimed that several months ago, the story was sent to Republican political strategist Rick Wilson, who proceeded to send it to the CIA, which then put it in their official classified intelligence report on the election.

Our intelligence literally got trolled by 4chan. And the news media published it. No credibility left. #GoldenShowers

While we've witnessed a number of exemplary Media trolls over the past year, 4chan takes the big league trophy. #GoldenShowers

Moscow considers the scandal a clear attempt to damage relations with Washington and the president-elect personally.

This is an obvious attempt to harm our bilateral relations,” Peskov said.

Pulp fiction, that’s what it is called in English. Of course, probably the best way to react would be accordingly – with a certain sense of humor."

Although there is a downside – indeed, there are those who are stirring up the hysteria, who go out of their way to maintain this state of a witch-hunt,” he added.

Trump is well-positioned to reign in the CIA. His cabinet choices in the national security area include former generals such as "Mad Dog" Mattis and conservative leaders with long experience in Washington. Pompeo graduated first in his class from West Point and served in Europe before the fall of the Soviet Union. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and was head of its law review. He's no dummy. NEITHER IS TRUMP.

    Story from The Daily Wire:

5 Things You Need To Know About Trump CIA Director Pick Mike Pompeo

On Friday, President-elect Donald Trump announced a flurry of selections to fill top cabinet posts. One of them was Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) to be director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Who exactly is Pompeo, and what can Americans expect from him as CIA director? Here are five things you need to know about Pompeo.

    1. Pompeo has a 77 percent liberty score at Conservative Review. Conservative Review's biography praises Pompeo for his leadership on numerous conservative issues, including his fight to end various federal subsidies, but noted that "there is room for improvement."

"Pompeo was elected in the 2010 wave and hasn’t performed to the same level as some of his conservative counterparts," the biography states. "Pompeo has been on the wrong side of issues as varied as fast track trade authority for President Obama, the effort to oust John Boehner (R-OH) from the Speaker’s chair, and the defund Obamacare movement. Regarding the reauthorization of the crony capital Export-Import Bank, Pompeo has hedged and in limited circumstances has supported raising the debt ceiling."

That said, there are still plenty of reasons for conservatives to be excited about him as CIA director.

    2. Pompeo has been a staunch critic of the Iran deal. Pompeo and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) have accused the Obama administration of engaging in various side deals with the Iranian regime – accusations that have proven to be true. Pompeo has also tweeted that he looks "forward to rolling back this disastrous deal with the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism."

    3. Pompeo understands the threat of radical Islam. Here are some of the statements Pompeo has made about the issue, via the Charlotte Observer:

      • Pompeo has criticized the Obama administration for refusing to acknowledge the need "to defeat and destroy the threat from radical Islamic terrorism, whether it fights under the name of Al Qaeda … or Boko Haram or ISIS or any of the other dozens of groups that are founded on the central principle of the destruction of the West and the imposition of Sharia law."
      • Pompeo has said the administration following Obama needs "a military, diplomatic and ideological defeat of radical Islamic terrorism."
      • On the House floor in 2013, Pompeo railed against "the silence of Muslim leaders" after the Boston bombing attacks, stating that "when the most devastating terrorist attacks on America in the last 20 years come overwhelmingly from people of a single faith, and are performed in the name of that faith, a special obligation falls on those that are the leaders of that faith."
Pompeo has also defended the use of enhanced-interrogation techniques at Guantanamo Bay and spoke out against a Kansas mosque bringing a speaker who once sang "I Am From Hamas."

    4. Pompeo was on the House Benghazi committee. Pompeo and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) thought that Rep. Trey Gowdy's (R-SC) report wasn't harsh enough towards Hillary Clinton, so Pompeo and Jordan released another report in which they stated that Clinton "misled the public" over what happened during the terror attacks in Benghazi, Libya. Pompeo has also asserted that Benghazi is a worse scandal than Watergate.

    5. Pompeo has supported the National Security Agency's mass surveillance program. Pompeo has declared that Edward Snowden should "be given a death sentence." Pompeo's view on the NSA may be a sticking point with some conservatives, but as Ben Shapiro has noted, Pompeo's position is "relatively uncontroversial among intelligence hawks."

    https://order-order.com/2017/01/11/d-notice-issued-naming-trump-allegations-source/

The Defence and Security Media Advisory Committee has just issued a D-Notice:

Defence and Security Media Advisory Notice guidance on the public disclosure of the names of members of the UK Intelligence Agencies (The Security Service MI5, the Secret Intelligence Service MI6 and GCHQ) asks editors and journalists not to disclose (without first seeking DSMA advice) ‘the identities, whereabouts and tasks of people who are or have been employed by these services or engaged on such work, including details of their families and home addresses, and any other information, including photographs, which could assist terrorist or other hostile organisations to identify a target’.

In view of media stories alleging that a former SIS officer was the source of the information which allegedly compromises President-Elect Donald Trump, would you and your journalists please seek my advice before making public that name.

Irrespective of the whether or not the stories are true, the public disclosure of that name would put the personal security of that individual directly at risk.

    Sincerely,

    Andrew Vallance

    Air Vice-Marshal

Defence and Security Media Advisory Secretariat

Effectively this is a reminder of the gentlemen’s agreement between the media and the security services to not name spies. Will foreign media comply?

Image caption Christopher Steele is believed to have left his home this week
An ex-MI6 officer who is believed to have prepared memos claiming Russia has compromising material on US President-elect Donald Trump is now in hiding, the BBC understands.

Christopher Steele, who runs a London-based intelligence firm, is believed to have left his home this week.

The memos contain unsubstantiated claims that Russian security officials have compromising material on Mr Trump.

The US president-elect said the claims were "fake news" and "phoney stuff".

Mr Steele has been widely named as the author of a series of memos - which have been published as a dossier in some US media - containing extensive allegations about Mr Trump's personal life and his campaign's relationship with the Russian state.

Among the allegations are that Moscow has a video recording of Mr Trump with prostitutes and damaging information about his business activities.

    'In fear'
BBC News correspondent Paul Wood said he understood Mr Steele left his home on either Tuesday or Wednesday, before he was publicly named, and was now "in hiding".

He said he had been told Mr Steele, a father of four, had asked his neighbour to look after his three cats.

I worked in army Intelligence for 5 years. There is quite a skew of information going out to the public. Other countries are no different as I also worked with NATO. Let's just say that every once in a while a blind squirrel finds a nut. If it sounds weird it most likely is.

It is interesting though that the British Government tried to protect the identity of this Guy Christopher Steele through censorship, through a D Notice. Why would they do this?

Padraig, security classification is all based on the collection of the data. The more accurate the information... The higher the classification. Even the lowest of classifications (confidential) requires annonimity. If the intelligence person had a security clearance then he had access. Whether he is telling the truth or not is a different story.

We used to have defectors jump the wall and when they would go through debriefing / interrogation some would make up stories to Increase their Intel value. It wasn't always easy to get to the truth. You just filed the stories away until you could collaborate the story. A lot were not really accurate but most of the time.e entertaining. ☺

The identities of intelligence agents are never revealed for their own safety, which makes sense.

He's ex MI6 and has set up his own business. Someone on Sky News said that the investigation wasn't done at the behest of British Intelligence but was commissioned by people who were seeking a particular result. They also said that he asked and was granted permission by British Intelligence to release the report, although that claim has not been verified. It was suggested that Mr. Steele will have made a great deal of money from this, and that he is lying low until all the fuss dies down to avoid journalists. If the people who released the report were seriously worried that the Russians would come after him, why would they have released his name, and if he were worried why did he let them release his name? If he's smart enough to be a spy, he's smart enough to hide his identity.

That's the truth, Padraig. This story has been proven to be a hoax, and it is part and parcel of the efforts of the Left and the Neocons on the Right to destroy Trump. They tried the rioting and that didn't last long; they tried the vote counting with the Green Party pushing it; they tried to manipulate the Electoral College, bashing the electors and intimidating them, and that did not stop the electoral College; and now they are attempting to delegitimize Trump with these silly stories.

We still have about 8 more days of this ranting and raving. Let's see what's next on the agenda.

That's very well possible Padraig. As I said earlier, debriefings have to be filed. Right or all out bold faced lies. All you have to do is find one of these wacky stories, (and there plenty to go around) attach a name of somebody with a reputable job that's willing to let his name out. And there it is in bold print. Even the Intel parties often called the cocktail circuit were places to tell these entertaining stories. People just being people tend to embellish and make the story their own. I attended my fair share of the events with many countries of the NATO community. Granted this was all in the eighties. I don't know what they do now. LOL! There's my disclaimer! :)

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

I would think that any real secret service would never want even a retired spy to be identified. Because any government who was worth their salt would be looking very closely at anyone who had any contact with that spy in the past. Therefore if Steele was who they say he was, anyone who had contact with him is spoiled for the purposes of espionage in the future. No only that but those other lives could be put at risk.

We all watched the James Bond movies and I thought we must all be experts at how these things work LOL.

I noticed it was right after the British Government secured a meeting between Mr Trump and Mrs May that all this exploded on airwaves. I wondered if some liberal progressive think tank thought to kill two birds with one stone. By embarrassing the Brexit culprit (the British),and the US Trexit culprits (Republicans) in one fell swoop. Like payback for escaping the claws of the liberal progressives in the same year. Who knows.
