I am the mother of two grown children and a grandmother of 7! My oldest, curly-headed grandson, Adam, looks so much like pictures of the child Jesus (especially the Light of the World picture) that it freaks me out sometimes. I am so blessed to have all of my beautiful children and grandchildren!
I am working, however so slowly, on becoming a third-order Secular Franciscan. In my heart I have always been, I just want to make it official someday.
After years of frustration with my previous career, and many rosaries and novenas and support on this forum, I became a school teacher at the age of 50. To confirm His approval, God put a religion class on my roster, which was NOT at all foreseen by me! I think God called me to this vocation back in the 80's, but I stopped listening to him back then.
Things turned again though. My teaching income was not enough to pay the bills and my children still needed help from me as well, so I prayed and prayed some more. My next answer completely blindsided me. I began making 3 times the money that I was teaching school! Still teaching and writing, but for industry again. I was working with other "old teachers", some of whom I worked with many years ago. This job took me away from my home 2 weeks out of every month, which allowed me to meet many new people and also to see some of my grandchildren more. However, 3 years of constant travel was enough. I learned a lot, saw a lot, my personal life changed tremendously, I went down new and better paths, and my faith grew.
My newest job (January 2017) is as a Senior technical writer for a company that is making radioisotopes for the medical industry. Currently these isotopes help detect blockages; heart, liver, and brain disease. In the future new isotopes will be able to target and eradicate some cancers and Aids and other diseases. This position is a culmination of all my life's work...or so it seems, until God puts something even more amazing in my path, that is. But for now, I am in a very, very good place with my career vocation. Thank you God.
God works in such mysterious ways, and everything that passes is necessary to get us to the place we are now. The path, and the plan, of our lives belong to us, but are guided by Him who made us. This I know without a doubt as it is proven to me over and over again in my own life. Amazing. I wonder what will be next?
