    Hi everyone,

I am new to this site, just joined today. I seen a few threads regarding reiki but I just thought it better to start a new one. Basicly I mistakenly went down that path and luckily I seen through the lies of it and seen sense and have since given it all up. But I think I might still need to talk to a priest as I don't think I am completely free of the consequences yet. So I am wondering if anyone here can recommend a priest in Ireland, preferably near Dublin who is well experienced in this type of thing ? and also any advice on how you yourselves may have dealt with it if you have also have experienced it. I look forward to your replys, Thanks

    Welcome Conor1,
I don't know anything about reiki but I do know that if you go to confession and speak of your concerns and sincerely confess any new age involvement, you are speaking to Jesus and it is He that is there with you in the disquise of the priest. He will heal you through this sacrament of the Church .
    God Bless

Yes Reiki is definitely bad and I guess any New Age practice brought to an extreme, like evoking Hindu gods in yoga, is also clearly bad.

But curiously there is also a guy called John Gillespie, from Donegal but living in Belfast, who has some gifts and who condemns completely any such practice at all, even a minuscule involvement. That is any use whatever of homopathy, reflexology, which is only a massage of the feet, or acupuncture, which might relieve a person's bad back say, even if the practitioner is only using it for medical reasons and is not in any way evoking other religions or whatever.

I wonder is that extreme view the correct one, I have no idea which is right myself.

Apart from confession you might also need a deliverance prayer -

I would recommend someone like Fr Pat Collins

    http://patcollinscm.webs.com/aboutme.htm

But he has a busy schedule as you can see below

    http://patcollinscm.webs.com/speakingengagements.htm

But I would contact him anyway and explain your situation and ask for advice

His home address and email address is on the first page I linked above (aboutme).

I have always instinctively hated all new age practices (my 'Catholic' antennae goes off big time).

I felt the demons present when I visited Glastonbury town (a centre for New Age) a few years ago when we were in holiday in England.

My wife laughs at me when I warn her about yoga, acupuncture and so on --

But I sense danger, real spiritual danger in all of these things.

    Welcome to the forum!

I recommend reading Ransomed from Darkness: New Age, Christian Faith and the Battle for Souls by Moira Noonan. Moira is an ex-new ager who was heavily into many new age practices for a couple of decades before coming back to the faith (she was also a Reiki master). Her process of returning to the Church would probably interest you. She says that it took several months, and even after being back fully in the church (eg. frequent confessions, regular mass, rosary, etc.) she still was not completely cleared. She was completely released through a thorough confession in Medjugorge, which she compares to an exorcism, and which involved naming each New Age practice, associated demons, and rebuking each. She confessed to Fr Philip Pavich, who saw many ex- New Agers in Medjugorje but has since gone back to the US I think.

I don't know how far you went with New Age, but you could start doing the same thing in confession as Moira, naming the practices, masters & rebuking them, which would probably help. Many names of demons/masters of New Age practices are given in her book.

I'll pray for you in your process. God Bless.

    Hi,

Thanks for your replys. I will look into Fr. Pat Collins now. garabandal, you are right about the dangers of yoga. All these practices are very good at advertising a positive message to the public but they are not so clear about their deeper beliefs behind the practices. Luckily I had never doubted the existence of God so that saved me. Yoga, is geared towards enlightenment. Although most people don't and may never feel the energy of it, the energy and kundalini is very real. The problem is the ones who do, don't believe in God so it is hard for them to see the lie and illusion of enlightenment. Enlightenment is in fact as good as total separation from God. I experienced a full kunudalini release and when other people do they think they are at one with "god", "all that is" at one with the "universe". But it is a trick, it is in fact just an ecstatic state.

I think the church in Ireland really needs to do more to explain the spiritual world to people. But the problem is, the church has lost its credibility so it will be down to ordinary church goers to share their experiences.

    Welcome Conor1,
I recently heard an exorcist speak about breaking diabolical holds on you and he said to go to confession frequently for a while. He said for minor obsessions/harassment that confession is as helpful as an exorcism. Also pray the rosary daily and ask Our Lady for help. Possibly consecrate yourself if you haven't yet, she will protect her own.

Thank you for these post. A friend of mine has a son with cancer and she has incorporated reiki into his treatment. I just sent her a email warning her of this new age practice. Anyone with cancer can feel desperate for any intervention and will try anything. Pray she accepts my advice with the spirit it is intended...I just could not let the opportunity to warn her pass and to alert her of its dangers.

  10. Welcome to the site conor1, if you are not able to get a priest, I have a lay friend in the Dublin area who has the gift of deliverance and deals with this stuff regularly, he will be able to get you an appointment with a priest if necessary. Send me a pm and I will give you his contact details if you wish.

  11. Hi Beth B, is your friend doing the reiki herself in her own home, or is her son attending elsewhere for it?

I was also going to recommend Fr Pat Collins, because he is based in Dublin, but there is a priest called Fr John Mocker who is based in Limerick who has a lot of experience with deliverance of people who have been involved in reiki. I listened to a CD of a talk he gave where he said that reiki, more than any other New Age practice, is causing absolute havoc in Ireland at the moment and that it takes a lot of deliverance prayer to eradicate it. It might be good to try and get in touch with him if you are still having problems because of the reiki.

I'm not sure, but I suspect she is taking him somewhere. She is a very liberal minded catholic psychologist and practices yoga too. I think she may feel that I am the "ignorant" one on these issues, but my conscience would not allow me to stay silent on this regardless of her opinion of me. It is a matter of fraternal correction and it would be a sin of omission if I had ignored it.

Be careful (I'm not saying anyone is doing that here) in condemning any "strange, new" practices as new age. A devout Catholic chiropractor in my area was using some different practices such as muscle testing, homeopathy, "emotional clearings", etc. and his pastor got wind of it and issued a warning that it "could be" spiritually dangerous. This chiropractor, who actually has read the aforementioned book by Noonan, in an attempt to stay clear of new age practices, appealed up the line and eventually met with the archdiocesan exorcist, who after understanding everything he does, cleared him of doing anything spiritually dangerous. This whole situation caused a lot of unnecessary division between good people.

This chiropractor has helped a lot of people, most of the time after mainstream medicine can do nothing for them.

The Church has given us excellent teaching on the new age - see link below. It is a very useful document and needs to be more widely known.

  16. You may indeed find it difficult to get through to her, but in time he will experience the negative results of such practices and hopefully she will too. If she was allowing it in her own home, she would probably experience negative activity first hand.
    Do you attend prayer meetings?

  17. I too have felt the presence of the dark side regularly when on hols. I have gotten into the habit of spiritually cleansing a room/ house or wherever I stay. Sometimes this will uncover stuff that is present, and will generally make its presence felt the following night and I may have to do the cleansing again but with more prayer.

  18. There is a book written about John Gillespie called The Miracle Ship, and well worth a read. I was accompanying a friend to an exorcist priest some time ago for help. He was getting on well for a couple of weeks and then hit a brick wall and nothing was moving. He happened to phone John Gillespie one day and John prayed with him over the phone. My friend had a long list written out that he used to bring to the priest with all the stuff he and his ancestors had been into. He told me that John mentioned everything that was on the list and more. He could feel stuff leaving him during the prayer, and felt as light as a feather and joyful when it was over. He never had to return for any more prayer from the priest.

Yes I read that book, which is excellent, and clearly John Gillespie is very authentic but still you'd wonder about the extreme view he would take of alternative medicine say.

Can we dismiss absolutely all of it like that? That link to the Vatican site above doesn't seem to condemn all those therapies completely in the way that John would. In that book he even draws attention to a statue that was blessed by a priest. He said something like it needed to be blessed three time I think it was. But still that man has definitely got great gifts so I am not at all ignoring what he says and clearly extreme - and semi religious - practices like reiki are very bad alright.

    Hi,

It's good and reassuring to read your comments. When I first gave it up about half a year ago I didn't know where to go to talk about it but I knew I had God and everything went fine. Its just the past few weeks, a few small things have happened that makes me want to discus it with a priest to be sure of casting it all out. Bethb, feel free to put your friend in touch with me if she has any questions about reiki for her son. I am not as informed on the bible as all you but I can at least inform her of all details on reiki which her practitioner may not be telling her. She can then at least have a fully informed decision. Especially in reiki level 1 people are led to believe that reiki is compatible with Christianity and it is mainly as you go deeper that you discover the many more reasons why its not. So maybe the woman treating her son has not fully realised yet either and may be telling her that it is compatible with Christianity.
