If I go to confession on Saturday and the vigil mass Saturday night (for Sunday) does this count? Or should it be a separate mass apart from the vigil mass? Thank you
I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, in order to make reparation to me, on the First Saturday of five successive months, go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for a quarter of an hour, meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary. http://www.themostholyrosary.com/appendix2.htm The promise doesn't say anything about the Mass, it only mentions receiving Holy Communion (obviously in state of Grace). So of course it will be your chance at the vigil Mass to offer Holy Communion in reparation to Our Blessed Mother.
I believe Woman Clothed With the Sun replied correctly. The weekly vigil Mass accompanied the liturgical reforms of Vatican II, acknowledging the pastoral needs of workers and others who cannot keep the Sunday obligation. Pope John Paul II noted in 1998: “Because the faithful are obliged to attend Mass unless there is a grave impediment, pastors have the corresponding duty to offer to everyone the real possibility of fulfilling the precept. . . ." Therefore, your vigil Mass certainly does count for making your First Saturday. Remember that you must make 5 consecutive ones. Also, the 15 minute meditation in in addition to praying the Rosary. Here is a small section of a booklet written by John Haffert, the great Fatima scholar and promoter. It is self-explanatory but a timely reminder! In this booklet called “God’s FINAL Effort” published by LAF in New York, Mr Haffert writes that the practice of the First Friday and First Saturdays “might be our last chance to prevent or to greatly mitigate, a worldwide chastisement. It took 200 years for the Church to respond to the ‘final effort’ of the Sacred Heart to deliver men from the reign of Satan. Now His Sacred Heart completes that final appeal through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Our Lord told Sister Lucia that the delay in response to this appeal is now as it was when He first opened to the world the treasures of His Sacred Heart. Jesus, Who had asked for Communions of Reparation on the First Friday, now revealed through Sister Lucia of Fatima: ‘The time is coming when the rigour of My Justice will punish the crimes of various nations. Some of them will be annihilated.’ Then, appearing with His Mother as She asked for the First Saturday Communions of Reparation, He said: ‘Have pity on the Heart of your most holy Mother, covered with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to remove them.’ Now those who make the First Saturdays and the vigilers are responding to His great desire. John 20:1-18 - Beginnings and endings Today is the last day of the year, BUT the gospel reading begins “In the beginning.…” Yesterday, Anna, though she was at the end of her life, was “looking forward,” NOT back. In the life of faith it is always the beginning. There are no dead ends for a Christian; an end is always a beginning of something - our task is make the new beginning lead to something immense. We live in an instant age where everything is fast and where there is not much sitting around waiting. This hasty and sometimes frenzied action of our culture has seeped into almost everything - even our spiritual journey. Some of us a blessed with having had an ‘Emmaus road experience’ in our lives, where we have been blessed with a conversion moment. IF you have had it, you know how special it is - something unique and very special from God. BUT it is the exception - no one keeps having them! A monk in The Melk Abbey (Germany) was showing a visiting monk from Thomas Merton’s Gethsemani abbey through the Melk abbey - he apologised to him for the many steps as they climbed the stairs. The visiting monk replied: “There are many steps in Gethsemani abbey, too,” Then he added: “I count them as I climb…. This is how I count them: one, one, one…!” In the spiritual life it is always a new beginning - and it is nearly always just one small step after another. This explanation answered the question posed by her confessor about why the number should be 5 Saturdays and not 9 to correspond to the 9 First Fridays, or 7 to correspond with Our Lady’s 7 sorrows. There are 5 ways in which people offend and blaspheme against The Immaculate Heart of Mary: 1. Offences or blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception – its denial and/or ridicule. 2. Against Her perpetual virginity – that She had relations with Joseph and had other children. 3. Against Her Divine Maternity, refusing at the same time to accept Her as Mother of all Mankind – denying that She is the Mother of God and our Mother. 4. The implantation into children’s hearts of indifference, contempt and even hate against our Immaculate Mother. 5. Insults directed against Her sacred images –displays of indifference or ridicule, and the infliction of damage to them.

The greatest sign of this veneration will be to receive Holy Communion on Nine Consecutive First Saturdays, and in the same way, on Nine Consecutive First Fridays, after a preparation and a true repentance. Their intentions must be to console My Heart and, at the same time, the Immaculate Heart of My Mother." Sister Natalia: "When Our Lord told me the first time about these First Saturdays, I did not realize that the Blessed Virgin at Fatima asked for only Five First Saturdays, in comparison with the Nine First Saturdays mentioned in the Messages I received. The Divine Savior replied: "The request of My Mother for Five Saturdays is a sign of Her humility and consequently, She did not consider Herself worthy of receiving a devotion that is equal to Mine. My request is a sign of My love, I cannot bear the idea of demanding more for Me than for My Mother who is united with Me in Love." "Hence, I understood that Jesus would have us make reparation for Nine Saturdays because He had demanded for Himself, to Saint Margaret Mary, Nine First Fridays." To make a good Novena, follow these suggestions: Prepare yourself with true repentance, if possible go to Confession (within eight days before or after); receive Holy Communion on both days (First Friday and First Saturday) The intentions of the Novena must be "to console My Heart and, at the same time, the Immaculate Heart of My Mother."
Lynnfiat, lovely post. And to share with you, I have posted a testimony to 5 First Saturdays under the thread about Consecration to Immaculate Heart of Mary. In case Immaculate Heart of Mary devotees would like to read it; it is post no 142.. I hope to make this 1st Saturday. There are just 5 First Saturdays until October when the Synod takes place, and then 4 First Saturdays to February 2016 completing the Novena. Nowadays health and vitality issues curtail my desires to fulfil these delightful Heavenly duties.
Sound like Our Lord contradicted himself here ... It is sometimes asked why Our Lady asked for Communions of reparation on five first Saturdays, instead of some other number. Our Blessed Lord answered that question when He appeared to Sr. Lucia May 29, 1930. He explained that it was because of five kinds of offenses and blasphemies against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, namely: blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception, against her perpetual virginity, against the divine and spiritual maternity of Mary, blasphemies involving the rejection and dishonoring of her images, and the neglect of implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of this Immaculate Mother.
