After having listened to many homilies and talks of Father Chad Ripperger, speaking on generational spirits, the reality of the demonic and diabolic oppression, obsession and possession etc, he often mentions 'curses' and how someone or some family may have been cursed, but he doesn’t explain how a curse comes about, as if we should all know what that actually means! I've listened to many of his talks hoping to hear how the initial or subsequent curses occur. Apparently at times the initial curse can go back generations? I don’t think it means that some unholy, witch or satanic person placed an actual curse on a family using a voodoo doll. Nor do I think it means that some member of the family sinned gravely and then that became the curse for the family, although that can be the cause of a generational spirit, however I don't think this is what Fr Ripperger is referring to in a lot of his talks. What I think a curse maybe, is an evil thought that somehow becomes enacted in the spiritual world. I think a curse can originate by an ordinary person.... like Mr A, who just happens to dislike Mr B. Mr A could be jealous or envious of Mr B and wishes harm to come to Mr B. Depending on the severity and repetition of Mr A's evil thought, a curse could ensue because the evil one can use a person’s bad intentions to enact harm. If Mr A is exceptionally, envious, jealous, calculating, cold, unforgiving, sloughful, angry, lustfult etc and does not believe in God, nor does he pray, than Mr A is a vehicle for the evil one to curse others. But if Mr B suffers many dreadful humiliations, failures, grief’s and pains and offers all this to God, forgives others, prays the rosary daily, goes to regular Confession, Mass and Adoration and receives Holy Communion, then God can use the suffering to bring about good, because Mr B becomes a victim soul, even though he does not know it. What I would like to know is, if Mr B does not want to be a victim soul or he just wants a break, what can he do?

I think Mr. B assuming he is in a state of sanctifying grace can take authority over all spirits not of the Holy Spirit and send them to the foot of the Cross of Jesus. That is why the deliverance prayers that Fr Ripperger recommends as does Fr Hampsch are such a good thing to pray on a fairly frequent basis. If it is still happening then a believing priest should be involved. Of course St Michael’s invocation on a daily basis is a must for all of us. But if God wills this so Mr B is a victim soul then I would think the grace to endure is given as well. Anyone else have thoughts on this.
I think people are either Fridges or Ovens. Ovens have hot hearts give off the heat of love to all they meet and warm folks up. Fridges are cold hearts and always take and never give. They freeze everyone round about. Best avoid. From the accounts of near death experiences this is what we are called to account for in our life review. The question is asked , where you a fridge of where you an oven. I think this is what a curse is a fridge freezer.
There is more than one kind of curse as far as I know. The scariest one was part of the readings at Mass on 5th November. I must look it up again, sorry can't recall just now. But in the reading at Mass 5th November, the hair stood on the back of my neck; because it said if a Priest vexes God enough, the blessings that Priest gives will be curses to those who receive them. Scariest thing I ever heard. I am sure there can be curses on places, things and or people. I know of one person who bought some land years ago, and everything went bad for that person. Cattle got diseased and died, crops failed and people who came to the help of the person suffered. And when they looked into it. It turned out that a family who were driven from their home the time the English threw people out in the old days in Ireland, well the father or mother of the family put a curse on that land that no one should ever prosper from it again. The cost to the person who placed the curse was the loss of their soul, and I heard the land was haunted by a ghost. It was thought the ghost was the soul who had cursed the land. I also know of a woman who left straw dolls in her belongings, and after she died they were found and disposed of. It was thought she had tried to put a curse on her family for whatever reason. I thought this was a dreadful thing when I heard it, and asked a Priest how that works. He told me it does not work if the person who is the object of such behaviour is in a state of Grace. I would love to hear more if others have heard any of these things. Years ago before radio and tv when people used to sit by the fire and chat in the evening, we used to hear many spooky tales about things that happened of that nature. One I can remember hearing was of an old woman who had the cure for headaches. People would go to her if they had a persistent headache and she would give them a sealed envelope with instructions never to open the envelope or the headaches would return. One person got worried and went to see the Priest when his headaches stopped once he got the envelope. The Priest told him to open the envelope, and when he did, he found a note inside which said; "Headaches farewell until we meet in hell." Word went round like wildfire, and the old woman was not asked for any more remedies. I think that is another kind of a curse.
While we are on the subject, does anybody know the difference between a curse and a spell? Just curious.
A think a spell would be a set forumlae, set down in a book called a Grimoire, or Black Book of Book of Spells. Actually you know their are quite a few of these Books of Spells... Grimoire .. kept deep in the Vatican Library under strict lock and key after being seized down the centuries from those convicted of witchcraft. . You have turned aside from the way, and have caused many to falter by your instruction; you have made void the covenant of Levi, says the LORD of hosts. I, therefore, have made you contemptible and base before all the people, since you do not keep my ways, but show partiality in your decisions. Have we not all the one father? Has not the one God created us? Why then do we break faith with one another, violating the covenant of our fathers? That reading on 5th November scared me to death, when you hear what is going on in the Church these days. I mentioned it in my wordy post earlier in the thread.
I am no expert by any means, only learned from ordinary people along life's journey. And I would never consider researching or studying this type of thing. But I would think a curse would only be for the purpose of bringing something bad to another person, place or thing. While a spell would seem to be some sort of formula to bring about a change in another person, place or thing. In the spell scenario, I would suspect it could be utilized for a perceived good purpose; for example making some girl fall in love with a boy. So the boy would seek the help of the spell to over ride the free thinking of the girl, if that makes sense. Can't think of a negative example of using a spell; but expect there are examples out there. That is how I understand it. Someone else might have a better description. Neither of these would be permitted by God, so as Catholics we can never entertain such things, I do believe they are delusions of the devil. And we stay safe from these diabolical things when we stay in the state of Grace. Thank God.

Surely to God the Vatican would burn that sort of thing. I never knew they would keep such things in their archives. I did not click the links. All you need is a fallen Prelate to get curious and get drawn into it. It must be like porn in the temptation stakes, and anyone could be corrupted by having anything to do with it.
Josephite, I went in and listened to more of this Priests talks. He is awesome. I am sure all those who struggle with what is going on in the Vatican would want to hear Father Isaac Mary talk about how he feels on AL and other recent things Holy Father is saying. I am surprised this Priest is allowed to speak publicly. But by gum he makes you sit up and listen.
I'll tell you a very interesting story I read in the Psychology text book many moons ago. A gentleman from Africa presented in an A&E in New York city and claimed he was going to die within 24 hours. When asked why he said he was under a curse from a local witch doctor which would cause his death in that time. The guy was so disturbed the doctors did a full medical work up on him and could not find a hair out of place. The guy dies suddenly and without seeming reason a few hours later , they did could not find a cause of death. The head shrinkers wrote it off as the power of suggestion. I don't think so. You don't have to travel too far to hear similiar stories, but this one was in the scientific journals. at the time. Missionaries report this stuff all the time. I remember one priest telling me when he got of the plane in Haiti he could feel the stuff all round him as though he had been punched in the face. Haiti is quite dreadful and famous for it. the whole Duvalier family were practising Satanists. Voodoo. The whole island is full of it.
I think that we're better off steering well clear of these things. Prayer to our Guardian Angel should protect us. CNN were running an ad last week for a Voodoo exhibition being hosted by the Guggenheim Museum. Wild horses wouldn't drag me into that place after some of the stuff they've hosted. I think I'd be afraid to even walk past it.
It is an unsavory unclean topic and if it weren’t for the darkness deepening we wouldn’t have to even mention it. But curiosity about such things is unhealthy. We must not even watch it on TV and stay away from movies that explore it. It is everywhere now. Another sign of the great apostasy I think.
I have no doubt that Demonic Evil has been loosed in an unprecedented way "These-Days". The Front Page and 24/7 News is full of horror. Some will scoff and claim that Evil has always been here and so it has since The Garden ... but .... "These-Days" of Worldwide instant communication, Sat/Cable TV, I-Pods, other devices seemingly glued to the hands of everyone under the age of 50 .... These-Days of Muslim/Alien Invasion and collapse of Christendom ..... Flash Rent-a-Mobs, crazies with guns, drugs, Nukes .... an entire generation (or more) without a moral compass and little sense of civic or religious responsibility .... disintegration of Family .... the 3rd World, still, starving and corrupt .... sex robots .... sex scandals ... everywhere .... Yes, there is Great Evil and spooky occurences. A weird thing happened in Oxford Street in the centre of London yesterday. Oxford Street is one of the Busiest shopping areas in the world with hundreds of thousands visiting every day . Especially at this time of year. Yesterday two men got in a fight on the platform in the station. The staff panicked and announced they were closong the station. People began to run out of the station, people said they heard gunshots, then the whole street , tens of thousands began to run everywhere, over nothing.
