I see India has her very first native born saint Sister Alphonsa. I was talking to a lady at work who comes from the same Sate as Saint Alphonsa and who telling me a little about her, a woman who did not die so long ago just back in 1946.

I mentioned that Alphonsa'a pictures on the internet are not very attractive, the poor woman looks as though she were about to throw herself of a building or something.

But apparently in real life she was very good looking. Hr aunt tried to force her to get married and Alphonsa burned her face very badly in a fire to get out of it as she wanted so much to be a nun.

She also explained that Alphonsa was a victim soul and suffered very severely from mistreatment from her fellow nuns. In this she seems very like Saint Margaret Mary. Alphonsa also took on other peoples sufferings so she could suffer for them.

Another story she told me was that Alphonsa was unknown, but a priest was getting on a bus, but the bus he wanted passed him by. Then another strange bus came , took him to Sister Alphonsa's funeral. The priest has never heard of her before. When he entered the Church he felt compelled to mount the altar and preach a sermon about her!!...someone he had never even heard off1 Anyhow after this the priest led calls for her canonisation, after studying her life!!

O always find it specially touching to see saints around the time of our own life. I am just thinking of saints who lived at the same time as Alphonsa, there are so many, Mother Teresa Pope John, Sister Faustina, Padre Pio, Sister Lucia, the list goes on and on..not only saints but great saints!!..

Saint Alphonsa is awesome! My husband is a Protestant from India, and Saint Alphonsa has a special place in my heart. Her prayer is very beautiful, too.

Oh My Jesus, hide me in the wound of Your Sacred Heart. Free me from my evil desire to be loved and esteemed. Guard me from the mean pursuit of fame and honour. Make me humble till I become a small spark in the flame of love in Your Sacred Heart. Grant me the grace to forget myself and all worldly things. Jesus, sweet beyond words, convert all worldly consolations into bitterness for me. O my Jesus, Sun of Justice, enlighten my intellect and mind with Your Sacred Rays. Purify my heart, consume me with burning love for You, and make me one with You. Amen.

I am afraid I know so little about her.

I know that she suffered terrible, terrible illness and almost paralysis as a Sister. She suffered quite a great deal, but always looked forward to the Blessed Sacrament, dragging herself to Mass as needed. She had a quiet, difficult life, but a giving, loving soul. Her only desire was to not complain, and to love Jesus. Apparently the other Sisters found her terrible illness and needs annoying, but she stayed quiet and sweet in spite of it.

Thankyou Gracia for sharing this powerful prayer. I have written it into one of my favorite spiritual books.
