Some here may be interested in checking out the prophetic paintings of Maria Magdalena Hafenscheer (1892-1968). She was a humble Austrian seamstress and housewife who created 28 prophetic paintings by divine inspiration. She had no art training. Before creating each oil painting she was led to spend several days fasting and praying. Once that time was over, the painting would be completed very fast. She would then write short descriptions to illustrate the content of each painting. Her paintings mainly covered future times and allegedly represent the world being dominated by darkness, a warning which God would send to mankind, a miracle sent to convert unbelievers, several chastisements and the dawning of a new era of peace which would emerge from the ashes of a world destroyed by sin.

Here´s a photo of her and some of her paintings, with brief descriptions:

    Awake, mankind!

Mary is sent by God to awake sinful mankind.

To the right, massive waves seem to inundate portions of the earth.

    Mary urges conversion

    A miracle from heaven?

The souls are separated by angels. Some look towards Christ, who is on the rock, others remain slaves to earthly passions.

The gates that lead to God are open by Christ who welcomes his own with open arms.

    The new era of peace.

The world is rebuilt by the remnant after the chastisements.

What struck me straight away in the first picture was how it reminded me of Cross mountain in Medjugorje.

Thank you Blizzard for sharing these drawings. And the picture of the lady who drew them.

What strikes me when they talk about a Warning from Heaven. How the later Miracle will be to give unbelievers a last chance to convert. If everyone gets the Warning, will many unbelievers refuse to believe the Warning comes from God. Because I would have expected there would be no unbelievers after a Heavenly Warning.

@Blizzard. I love your avator picture. It is the one Maria Esperanza kept in her bedroom. I believe it is a miraculous picture. Expect you have already read the story behind it.

I like the motif of the spiritual life being like climbing a mountain, I see this in a couple of the pictures, a very Catholic symbolism.

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Blizzard, I find those pictures utterly extraordinary. I see so much in them.

I find more and more of Medjugorje in the first one. It is awesome and I would love to ask so many questions about what the artist depicts in the first picture.

The second picture has a note over the top saying 'Miracle?'
The first time I looked at that picture what came to me was. 'And the people saw a great light.'

But I believe the artist is depicting something to convey a message to us. From that perspective, I first thought is she pointing us to the Miracle that has been promised. And I thought no, what that picture tells me is; this is how the artist is portraying the 'Illumination of Conscience.' And what I find so encouraging is the people do not look panicked, no one is holding their heads with horror, all those in the light look happy or optimistic, not scared. I always thought the Illumination would be very scary. According to that picture, it would be a positive encounter.

What makes me think of the Illumination is the very black clouds either side of what appears to be a multicoloured river of light coming down from Heaven. Yes, it appears the Blessed Mother may be visible in that light; but her hair is blond. Could that be because of the light. Her hair is not normally shown as blond.

I thought the pictures you have shared seem to be a sequence of what we have been told in the various messages. And wondered am I imagining something that is not there. I went into the site you linked, and see other pictures that are very hard to figure out. It would be great if someone could speak the language and translate what the pictures portray or what is being said, or if the artist ever made known what she was portraying.

Picture three is very sad and very hopeful, it seems to be portraying the time immediately after the Illumination or warning. With some people naked, and I think this means having lost everything but their lives. Some are dressed which makes me think some people will not lose everything but convert, maybe they are already on the road to conversion now.

I think picture three also shows in the distance to the left the Blessed Mother on her knees praying for the people after the Illumination. She is in blue, could that be Our Lady of Guadalupe. And who is the other person on their knees beside her. Could that be Saint Joseph.

Picture four tells me people will be back on the road to spiritual growth towards practising the virtues and climbing the spiritual ladder preparing for being able to enter Heaven one day.

The fifth picture tells me everything will be totally simplified after all this is over. I noticed a couple of women towards the far distance pulling a cart. And wondered where are the animals. No donkeys or anything. In fact no animals in any of the pictures apart from that snake in picture three. And we all know what that represents.

I see so much more in those pictures; don't want to bore others with my impressions. LOL
Sorry, I have got carried away with it all.

Hi Julia (and Mac), I find your comments incredibly insightful. Here´s a little more info on the paintings which may help us understand them a little better:

    They were created over an extended period of time, from the late 40´s to the mid-60´s;

    They were not created so as to suggest a specific chronology, at least this is not apparent;

    She would always add a brief description of each, but analysts would add their own interpretation of them; sometimes it´s not clear where her original comments end and other people´s interpretations begin;

    Before the painting began she would "see" the whole thing as if in a movie screen - even the captions were "dictated" to her (inner locution?), however, she remained perfectly conscious throughout the whole process;

    Every little detail in each picture is supposed to have a meaning, i.e., there is nothing there that´s gratuitous or merely illustrative;

I don´t have a lot of time but I can probably add 2 or 3 paintings every day and translate the comments.

So here goes. This time I will place the description BELOW the picture.

MARY, MOTHER OF JESUS, HELP US!

Mary, Mother and crowned Queen of Heaven cries for mankind.

Bottom right you see hands of different colors, suggesting she is the Mother of all races on earth.

She warns, holding the cross high, to have faith in great consideration. With her left hand she holds her divine son and offers him to God.

On the right angels place Satan in a cave.

In the background the face of Christ, the rising sun, the angels blowing their trumpets announce the coming of Christ, the awakening of humanity and the dawning of the new world.

    GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO

The divine heart with three flames inside and seven radiant rings.

Two months before starting this painting the artist had a vision: she saw Christ coming out of this heart (as a divine person). In his hand he held the entire world and walked towards Mary who, kneeling down, was ready to take it in her hands. Christ has thus entrusted the world to Mary.

You also see: St Michael archangel who presents his sword to Christ meaning: the fight is over.

Below the four figures symbolize the four races on earth who look upwards towards heaven. The purification of earth is complete.

A choir of angels on top sings: gloria in excelsis Deo.

This picture reveals a miracle that heaven will perform to urge humanity to repentance. The explanation of this picture formulated by the painter is clear:

bottom left: signs of a previous devastation that has spread also to the back.

In the sky: dark clouds and a rain of stars falling.

Top: the ray of hope of God illuminates the darkness. It comforts, strengthens and stimulates.

Masses of people observe the miracle worked to warn humanity to repent. These people raise their arms in prayer and ask for help.

In the light of God within: Christ the King and Our Lady, His Mother. She opens her arms and promises help.

Mary is held by the hand of Christ: He gives his Mother to Humanity.

    View attachment 6156

It is the largest picture of the painter (210 x 145 cm.). In the center Mary is seen as an anchor, lifeline and hope for humanity. The anchor is let down by the divine Heart to humanity through a chain of roses. Christ holds this chain of roses of love in His hands. Everything comes from the Divine Heart (rays). This also happens to the torch and the patera (a broad shallow dish used in ancient Rome for pouring libations) of love in Mary´s hand.

Mary pours the contents of the patera (ie: the graces) on earth. She is the Mediatrix of all graces.

The torch and the scepter evokes the phrase that Mary said at Fatima: "... but in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph."

On the horizon we see the angels with bells and torches. In the explanation of the picture it says: "Humanity is shaken: where is day and where is night."

Before humanity is held the mirror of the knowledge of themselves. It will recognize sin (symbol of that: angel with a mirror and a snake).

The Church (purple rock with the cross and the heart) will serve God and humanity with humility and love, and will set a good example.

Love will bring together peoples and races in the name of peace and faith.

The weapons are laid down (bottom left) and heralds (right) announce the new era.

    A couple more:

TRIUMPH OF ETERNAL LIGHT OR THE NEW ERA (1948)

Before us is Christ, who holds in his hands the palm of victory, or the palm of peace and the divine Heart with three flames. His royal dignity is symbolized by his mantle and the sovereign crown. The halo with the seven divine principles testifies to his divinity. The figures on both sides of Christ have symbolic character: they represent gratitude, devotion, charity, hope, humility, respect towards elders, justice, love for God and neighbor, order ...

The truth (right) of this is wrapped in the mantle of faith.

Half of the picture that is on the left shows how even the profane lives of men will be renewed in purity and love. There will be bread for all.

Truth will again be honored (vineyards in the background). Faith, hope and charity sail towards the rock of faith (three boats above right).

And the sun of love and faith, which is new, announces that the men of the future will be even more united to God.

The mountains and the rock (Peter) on the panel, at the top, represent the spread of the doctrine of Christ.

A FORK IN THE ROAD (1954)

The center of the picture is occupied by the Cross where the road is divided; that's where the separation of the spirits happen.

The broad way leads down: it is the path of vice and sin. The narrow and rocky road of faith and love leads to the light of truth.

In the foreground the two main figures of the painting lead their followers: Lucifer and his partner - the Liar. The Liar´s face is a beautiful mask .

Folowing these two figures we find figures that symbolize murder , child abuse, corruption of youth, alcoholism, free love and prostitution, homosexuality, rape of children, adultery etc.

In the lake of vice (bottom left) are depicted the deceivers and the deceived in the sin of abortion.

The Angels are engaged on both roads to defend their proteges.

The crown of eternal life is given to those who have persevered in faith and love to the end.

Heaven shines in this crown, held by two hands. Below there is Christ in the boat waiting.

This place I have immediately recognized. I was there more than 50 times. It is Podbrdo hill in Medjugorje and therefore I think it is the 3th Secret, Miracle.

If somebody studies these images, in the first image is visible a pomegranate tree with ripe fruits. The weather is sunny, therefore I suppose it will occur in august/september.
The second image is from Garabandal. If you went online into the Garabandal (google maps street view), you saw, that the view of the painter is from southeast to northwest. The altitude of the pines is cca 560 m. The mountains in the bacground could have cca 800 m. The sunset is visible in the second figure. In the Garabandal, the sunset in 13th April is dated cca 20:50 and the miracle will end in 20:45. Therefore I think, that the Miracle will occur rather in May 11.

Very interesting. But remember that, according to some, miracles may occur not only in Garabandal but in other apparition sites e.g. in Medjugorje. So, if indeed the painting depicts a miracle it could be somewhere else. BTW the "miracle painting" is from 1957.

THE WAY OF THE CROSS OF HUMANITY (1950)

The large figure symbolizes the whole of humanity. It lies on a cross - which was built by itself - over the abyss of the demonic. The crown of the madmen of pride and materialism has seven horns. These symbolize the seven deadly sins.

The forces of darkness are trying by all means to ruin humanity. A demonic hand with a dagger wants to inflict the mortal blow to humanity.

To the left of the panel we see young people walking in the mud. The girls wear blue jeans. This is noteworthy because in 1950, when this painting was done, this was not yet seen.

The seduction of youth is depicted - temptation with gambling, alcohol, crime, power, wealth, greed ; flirting and unfaithfulness, drug use. There are numerous threats symbolically represented on the panel - that undermine humanity: Natural disasters, poverty, diseases , expression of all the baser passions, wars, suicide, sexual crimes.

But a ray of light coming from the sky falls on humanity and offers a lifeline to those who have kept the faith, those who have exercised purity of heart and humility.

    MARY´S VISION (1953)

The painter wrote little about this painting. The explanation is the following:

Mary by the cradle of Jesus: Mary sees a vision of the sufferings of Christ and cries.

The angel bears the cup of suffering, with the cross, the crown of thorns, bleeding heart, etc.

Below: Pilate washes his hands; Jews, Pharisees. A serpent and the head of an animal similar to a lynx: defamation.

    Left: detail of Joseph´s quarters.

Outside, at the front door: Joseph gives alms to the poor (woman with two children).

white doves: purity and peace in the family.

Above, right: angels in the clouds = divine protection.

    Work and diligence.

Female figure with bread : a loved one visits ( St. Elizabeth?).

Record AN: the "dear visit" may be the one that Our Lady made to St. Elizabeth. Ms. Hafenscheer herself has doubts about it. Maria sees in a vision that she is to be the future Mother of mankind to be redeemed. She sees the role she will play in the salvific plan of God. But she also recognizes that her son will have to endure slander and defamation.

COME TO ME ALL YOU WHO ARE WEARY AND BURDENED (1955)

On top shines the "New Jerusalem" coming down from heaven (cf.. Revelation 21.9). Two Cherubins with flaming swords stand guard to prevent those who are not worth from entering.

Christ extends his right hand toward sinners, saying : "Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and will give you rest". And placing his left hand on his heart, says: "Son, this is the road that leads to life, the door that leads to the Father. He who does not pass through it, can not go to the Father."

The figures in the foreground are mainly sinners who trample on the broken tables of the Commandments. Only a few are turning to Christ.

On the right side we recognize the violators of the Commandments in the present time: a chemist and a physicist trample the fifth commandment ( "Thou shalt not kill!"). The ball with the face of the devil is the atom ... Some young people trample the 5th, 9th, 10th Commandment ( "Thou shalt not kill," "You shall not covet your neighbor's wife ... and the property of others "). A gang tries to climb over a wall using ladders. But their faith is too weak and fragile. They think they can reach the goal without having to observe the Commandments.

Without faith, without charity, without prayer you can not rise to the top: go to Heaven.

THE TRIUMPH OF LIGHT OVER DARKNESS (1958)

St Michael strikes the Adversary who crashes into a rock with his black horse. But on the rock there is the shield with the letter "M" (Mary) and the Cross. In the explanation of the picture we read:

The Adversary plunges below, and together with him: materialism - the lust for possession and power - chains - the human scourge that brings death - the power of the sword - drunkenness - death and ruin.

The great Archangel provides divine protection to all men of good will.

At the top of the picture you can still recognize the last effects of evil. To the left the various figures symbolize: jubilation and joy, brotherhood, the willingness to help others, love for God and neighbor.

There will be peace among all peoples and nations.
