    Prophecies and Charlie’s Angels

Note: We in America have a special role in the Universal Church. We have been called by history and the Spirit to play a special role at this point of history. At The Catholic Thing, we take very seriously this dual vocation to the Church and the world. If you’re a regular reader, you probably do as well. But without resources, we cannot fight the good fight here, in Rome, and beyond. We’re very close to the figure we need to continue outwork into 2017 and beyond. During November, as the liturgical year comes to an end, the Mass readings are replete with eschatological themes, prophecies concerning the Last Things – wars, famines, plagues, earthquakes, persecutions. Homilists have to make an extra effort to come up with cheery interpretations. But the Church’s intention is not to scare the faithful but to emphasize the serious choices involved in being a Christian, and to help us to enter the season of Advent and to look forward to the rescue God offers us at Christmas.

In the Church’s history, these Prophecies (with a capital P) about final things and the end of the world are happily complimented with prophecies (with a lower-case p) giving direction to the faithful here and there – the various prophecies that St. Paul speaks about in 1 Corinthians, edifying Christians, preparing them for imminent trials, or assuring them of victories.

And such prophecy reappears now and then, giving extra hope to the faithful, which we need at certain times. And it doesn’t necessarily require heroic sanctity. Pope Benedict XIV writes:

The recipients of prophecy may be angels, devils, men, women, children, heathens, or gentiles; nor is it necessary that a man should be gifted with any particular disposition in order to receive the light of prophecy provided his intellect and senses be adapted for making manifest the things which God reveals to him. Though moral goodness is most profitable to a prophet, yet it is not necessary in order to obtain the gift of prophecy.

He goes on to say that even angels can’t have certain knowledge of events depending on the contingent decisions of humans, unless God reveals the future to them, and thus imparts limited prophetic powers.

Aside from the frequent prophecies from the 4th century to the 19th century of the coming of a “Great Monarch,” and other extremely broad eschatological claims, many of the private prophecies of the saints and servants of God, according to the Catholic Encyclopedia, “were concerned with individuals, their death, recovery from illness, or vocations. Some foretold things that would affect the fate of nations, as France, England, and Ireland. A great number have reference to popes and to the papacy.”

The United States is much larger than France, England, or Ireland, and so might be home to prophets now and then. Granted that there have been pseudo-prophets galore in the history of our country, are there any authentic prophets available to give us extra direction or encouragement in facing the immediate challenges on the horizon?

In a previous column, I mentioned some saints and others who apparently had constant visible presence of their guardian angels, sometimes even from the time of childhood. Charlie Johnston, a journalist in Denver, Colorado, a talk-show host and political consultant, apparently has had this experience. He eventually entered the Catholic Church, and has become a pundit giving speeches here and in other countries, and running a website on the theme, “the next right step.”

With the permission of his three priest spiritual directors, he occasionally publishes prophecies about the United States and foreign affairs. But his bishop advises hearers to exercise “prudence and caution,” and in 2015 announced that he is not an approved speaker for the Archdiocese of Denver.

Johnston says he receives prophecies through his angel: including a “Great Storm,” which began in 2009 when North Korea ran nuclear tests and allegedly began serving as an “arms merchant” to Middle Eastern regimes; Islamic wars that will finally be defeated; and an upsurge of Chinese aggressiveness that will be opposed by the concerted efforts of the United States and Russia. He adds “I am led to believe the ultimate dictator, while exercising unreviewable executive, legislative, and judicial power in America, will consider himself the ‘Regent of Democracy’.”

On American politics, he made the clearly mistaken prediction that in 2016 there would be no presidential election, or, he hedged, “the results would be irrelevant.” He also made the unlikely prediction that President Obama would not finish his term of office, and “our next stable national leader will not come through the political system.”

His most striking prediction is that, towards the end of the year 2017:

At the darkest moment, Our Lord will send Our Lady to rescue us, visibly and miraculously – and the Storm, while not completely over, will have lost its power and force. . . .Our Lord will send Our Lady, the Immaculate Conception, to rescue us. Our deliverance will be miraculous and visibly from her hands.

I and many others would welcome such a final event, which Charlie calls “The Rescue.” But I am skeptical about these predictions for two reasons:

    1) I wrote a book and a number of articles about the angelology of St. Thomas Aquinas, and occasionally get letters or emails on that subject. One was from an apparently very normal man, a practicing Catholic, who had experienced the visible presence and communication from angels all his life. He had questions about my book, and got some answers from his angels; but those very friendly angels he described were married, having baby angels, etc. I warned him that this was heretical, and he should get a spiritual director, and he did. I concluded that maybe angel-sighting is a psychological phenomenon, experienced by some very ordinary people, but not necessarily supernatural.

    2) I have strongly criticized the Medjugorje phenomenon in the past. Johnston says that when he expressed doubts to his angel about Medjugorje, the angel corrected him, saying “Lourdes, Fatima and Medjugorje are all manifestations of a single event.” Who am I to argue with angels? But that seems far-fetched.

Charlie Johnston is, however, not the usual excuse-making prophet. He says, “If, next January, Barack Obama peacefully hands over the reins of power to Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, I will declare myself unreliable and go away.”

It would be a good thing if not only self-proclaimed prophets but our ordinary political pundits were to make the same promise.

Re. the "no elections" Charlie said that in 2015, but a year ago corrected it and said he could see some circumstances where the election would be held, a winner declared, but the winner would not take office and Obama would not finish his term. It's all moot until January 20th (or until the date it crashes if before Jan 20 the final crash occurs and Charlie is proven correct). One would have to be whistling through the graveyard to dismiss it yet as clearly day by day we are seeing the establishment doing anything they can to overturn the result and keep Trump out, with "The Russians did it!" being their latest hail mary . . .

Pray, Hope, and Don't Worry :)

I have come to believe that CJ is correct, heaven's meanings are different than ours. Hence, one can only understand apparitions in hindsight. Time and space are completely different. Also, it appears that God has always acted "late" according to man's standards. Just like Simeon with the birth of Christ the bible is filled with stories of a last second fulfillment. I believe this time will be no different. How about 100 years since Fatima? Who would have thought that. I could go on and on about late fulfillments.

Charlie actually has predicted more than just Obama not finishing his term and trump taking office - He has also said that most federal government officials won't finish their term as well.

Very true. Last year I was searching for something in this forum and came across some postings from a few years ago, and many posters who are still here saying "any day now" were saying years ago "any day now" that things were going to crash. I also have felt for 2 years now that it was going to be "any day now".

One thing I learned from Charlie is that heaven doesn't look at things like we do. To heaven eyes "soon" could be 20 years to us.

Regarding Charlie's comment with his angel regarding 2013 being the last normal Christmas I think it's another example of how time and space are completely different to us and to heaven. I just mentioned this morning on the thread about the murders at the Coptic Church in Egypt, the people in the Holy Lands where Christ was literally born, which is what Christmas is all about, haven't had a "normal Christmas" for a couple years now as Isis chases them from their homes and parishes: many on this forum and around the world can't even fathom what "last normal Christmas" means when our brothers and sisters in the lands where Christ was born are being driven from their homes, their churches destroyed, and are being martyred including literally being crucified.

I pray the rosary often for our brothers and sisters who are being persecuted and martyred over in Syria, Egypt, and all over the holy lands. Just because they haven't shown up at your door to murder your children and haven't blown up your church yet doesn't mean the storm hasn't been raging for years now . . .

The 2013 Christmas was clearly a miss by Charlie. There has been violence in the Holy Land for years, this one is from 2012:

Curious how you give Charlie's alleged prophecies credibility, but dismiss nearly all other alleged prophecy, which fits into a consensus with many others out there. What is your criteria for discernment in alleged prophecy?

yes, but there has been nothing like Isis rampaging over there until these last couple of years which are clearly different. They are literally beheading and crucifying thousands and thousands of people. Remember all the Christians chased from their homes? The bishops crying for the world's help? The Pope asking for the world to intervene? This is unlike anything that has happened and it's directed to Christians and other minorities now instead of the traditional arab sects going at it or just attacking the Jews.

I also questioned Charlie when after Christmas 2014 I had put my Christmas tree up and my kids opened presents and we went to Mass. Seemed pretty normal to me. But then he made me look it without the blinders on and see that my brothers and sisters over there had nothing like a normal Christmas, they didn't even have churches to go to Mass in :(

not answering for pic, he can do so himself but your comment prompted me to ask you something that came to me the other night. What prophecies (modern day) have come true? The only one I can think of is when our Lady told the 3 children to bring everyone on October 13, 1917 and then the Miracle of the Sun occurred. But what else has come true? The only other one I can think of is Akita and that in my estimation has been shown to be unfolding true just recently with Cardinal Burke and the others opposing their fellow Cardinals: "The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres (other priests); churches and altars will be sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord."

Seeing how we have all these prophetic words but not shown to be definitely true, that's one thing that really resonates with Charlie. There's no "soon" with him, we will know for sure by January 20th if he's for real or not, no grey area, no mabyes, just black and white. And I hope everyone understands that if true the whole point of Charlie sharing that prophecy of Obama not finishing his term and Trump not being sworn into office is so that we all then believe in his real mission which is to proclaim the Rescue which will come in late 2017 (as he says we'll need that hope to hang onto to get through the chaos that reigns for a few months when the final crash comes and the confrontation with China is raging). It's the main reason I pray that Charlie is shown to be true, because that means we have a back end to this diabolical chaos our world has descended into. If he's true then we hang on to late 2017 and then things begin to get better. If he's false, then we're probably in for a long horrid slog fighting evil for many years/decades, and that is deflating to consider . . .

  12. The trouble is with attempting to get specific boundaries with the "prophecies" they always seem to shift as time goes on.....most thought they pertained to the way Christmas was celebrated within the audience pertaining to Charlie and his ventures in this country. If one extends such to the rest of the world....well, when the secular EU was getting organized Europe got rid not only of its geographical borders but also its Christian history, writing a new kind of Constitution, voluntarily dismissing its Catholic and Christian heritage. Popes JPII and Benedict both rather condemned this denial of history and culture involving feasts et al. During the Soviet era Christians within Catholic Ukraine had to celebrate Mass in hiding with those like the mystic Josyp Terelya thrown in the Gulag several times. All missed their open celebrations of Christmas and other feasts. And the same for former Yugoslavia after the strong man there was gone.

If one now has to point to the Middle East in order to excuse a lack of change of normalcy here for Christmas celebrations, well that fear and persecution of the minority Christians began at least as far back as 2003 at the time of the Iraq invasion, and of course worsened in 2009 when troops for protection were deliberately withdrawn by Obama:

During the reign of Saddam Hussein, the estimated 1.4 million Christians - many of them Chaldean-Assyrians and Armenians, with small numbers of Roman Catholics - were generally left alone if they didn't oppose the government and they lived in relative peace with the country's Sunnis and Shiites.

Some, such as Tariq Aziz, Saddam's foreign minister and deputy prime minister, rose to the highest levels of power.

Things changed after the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq toppled Saddam's regime. Christians became a target of violence when Islamist groups and ordinary Muslims angered by the military action began seeing them as the enemy, associating with them with the "crusaders" - the invading armies of the United States and Britain.

Tensions over their religious ties with the West and their differing beliefs to the strict Islamic majority, which had been simmering for years, spilled over as the occupying forces dug in.

    http://www.dw.com/en/iraqi-christians-fear-escalating-persecution-as-us-forces-withdraw/a-6052335

So, for so many other spots in the world local Christmas customs have come and gone and come again over the years. Just too vague for me if anyone has to equivocate into all those other regions because what was expected to happen here didn't occur at time given.

The "no elections" is not the only story Charlie has corrected. He made an earlier claim about his trip up Mt. Meeker at the end of his pilgrimage; he said had he not heeded earthly authority and climbed to the top of the mountain, the full force of the Storm would have broken out. Later he corrected that -- apparently after a priest spotted it and questioned him-- to be that he realized that through his prayers and the prayers and sacrifices of others God's mercy had kept the full force of the Storm breaking out at that time, etc. Mulligans in prophecy, as in golf?

Yes, times are bad and uncertain, but even if the Trump transition is interrupted, this is not proof positive Charlie's messages are from God. The Catholic Church criteria for judging apparitions clearly states messages can come from many different sources, including human knowledge, mental illness, neurological conditions (included in Vatican guidelines), demonic influence.

As I've said many times, Charlie does not "fit the profile" of Catholic seers: he is not humble, he does not give all glory to God, he is way too interested in politics, he is contemptuous of others. His personal history has too many holes (he stopped a bank robbery in progress, he rescued a family from a burning car, he drank poisoned water and survived unharmed, he was bitten by a radioactive spider and developed super powers:cautious:...)*

ETA: Just kidding, he didn't claim to be Spiderman. But he claimed the other things without offering proof.

Others have already touched on some that have come to fruition, but that was not my point. I am very curious how Picadillo gives a thumbs up to Charlie's alleged messages and a thumbs down to nearly every other alleged message out there in many of his past posts. I am not dogg'n Charlie, just scratching my head at his support for his messages while discrediting nearly all other alleged prophecy.

I have not met Charlie personally, so I have no 'skin in the game' so to speak. I try to assess allot alleged prophecy and most to me is not hard to rule out, others on the fence still and others I am more convinced as highly probable.

I don't need prophecy to see what is going on in the church and world, but if heaven his speaking through messengers it is for our good.

    Prophecy of Father Pel

    Prophecy of Father Pel
The Original Link in French is given...

Fr. Constant Louis Marie Pel was born in 1878. In his desire to become a priest, he was directed by Fr. Antoine Crozier, the "saint of Lyon" - - who had the invisible stigmata. Ordained in 1901 after having received 2 doctorates, Fr. Pel became a seminary professor. He was a personal friend of St. Padre Pio and Bl. Charles de Foucauld, and spiritual director for a time of Marthe Robin.
Fr. Pel had a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and would spend nights on his feet in church with his forehead leaning against the Tabernacle. He was the beneficiary of more than 3500 Eucharistic miracles.

Blessed with good health, it was a car accident that ended his life in 1966 at 88 years of age. Padre Pio frequently asked his French visitors: "Why do you come here to see me when you have in France so great a saint!

Fr. Pel was the founder of a convent for women and a seminary for men, and it was one of his spiritual sons, a seminarian, who wrote down the following prophecy that Fr. Pel related in 1945.
Since the sins of the world are increasing in horror, very great punishments from God will befall the world and no continent will be spared from the wrath of God.
France, being guilty of apostasy and renouncing its vocation, will be severely chastised. It (France) will be divided as by a line stretching from Bordeaux (in the southwest) to Lille (in the Northeast). East of this line, everything will be laid waste and set ablaze by peoples invading from the east, and also by great flaming meteorites falling as a rain of fire upon the entire earth and upon these regions in particular. There will be devastation everywhere: revolution, war, epidemics, plagues, poisonous chemical gases, and violent earthquakes. France’s extinct volcanoes will reawaken and destroy everything: Auvergne, the Alps, the Pyrenees and other areas.
France to the west of that line will be less affected - - the Vendée (the area evangelized by St. Louis de Montfort and then also as a result was the primary area that rose up to defend the Catholic Church in France against the demonic French “Revolution”) and Brittany - - because of the deeply rooted faith in these regions. Nevertheless, it will be necessary to stay far from the coasts, sometimes even 50 km (c. 30 miles) away, to escape the sea’s swallowing (of the land) as will take place in Marseille and the Riviera because of the sins and scandals committed at the beaches of these regions in particular.

But I must make known that the (evil) sectarians and the great enemies of God who would want to seek refuge there – hoping to escape the global cataclysms – will be put to death by the demons themselves wherever they attempt to hide, because the wrath of God is holy and just.
Thick darkness caused by war, gigantic fires, and fragments of flaming (burning) stars that will fall for three days and nights -- will cause the sun to disappear. Only candles blessed on Candlemas will give light in the hands of believers, but the Godless will not see this miraculous light because their souls are in darkness.
In this way, three quarters of mankind will be destroyed, and in some parts of France survivors will have to go 100 km (c. 60 miles) to find another (living) human being. It will reach the point where people have to eat human flesh to survive.
Several nations will disappear off the face of the world’s map. France will become very small, but as a small part it will survive until the end of time. And thus purified, France will again become the “Eldest Daughter of the Church” – renewed -- because all the Cains and Judases of humanity will have disappeared in this “Judgment of the Nations.” But this is not yet the end of time, which will take place later.
The Mediterranean Sea will disappear totally; the oceans will cast enormous jets of burning steam up to the skies and will deluge the continents in a frightful tidal wave that will annihilate everything in its path. New mountains will erupt out of the earth and the oceans, while the Alps and the Rhine Valley to the north will collapse as they are inundated by the sea. In this way, the map of the world will be totally changed; the earth will undergo great shocks (i.e., shakings) that will prevent it from turning normally on its axis. The seasons will be cease to exist for three years, after which the earth will once again produce it plants and vegetation. There will be great famine in the entire world. Paris will be destroyed by the revolution and burned by atomic fire (i.e., weapons being fired) from Russians in Orleans (south of Paris) and the region of Provins (east of Paris.)
In the future, when you see that this frightful time is near, take leave to Brittany (on the western coast of France) but go to the center, far from the coasts - - because they will collapse. This global scourge will begin on a cold winter’s night and with a terrifying roar of divine thunder – an unnatural sound filled with demonic screaming – that will be heard by the entire world.
It will be the voice of sin that terrified men will hear on that night.
