Most people are familiar with the shroud of Turin but I don't believe that many our familiar with the Tilma in which Our Lady of Guadalupe left a very detailed image of herself. Here is an article from 2012 which discusses the intricacies of this miracle Tilma.

I could not find many postings about this on MOG so I thought it might be interesting to start a new thread where we can post what we find to be the most interesting thing about this Tilma.

For me there are so many things but I do wonder what the significance is to the accuracy of the constellations, other than the obvious relation to Revelations 12. It is a shame that the crown from the original image is no longer visible in the image today. The miracle of this image is just incredible.

The following prayer is one of several written for Our Lady of Guadalupe:

    O our Lady of Guadalupe,
    mystical rose,
    make intercession for Holy Church,
    protect the Sovereign Pontiff,
help all those who invoke thee in their necessities,
and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary
and Mother of the true God,
obtain for us from thy most holy Son
the grace of keeping our faith,
sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life,
burning charity and the precious gift of final perseverance.

    Dearest Lady,
    fruitful Mother of Holiness,
teach me Your ways of gentleness and strength.
    Hear my prayer,
offered with deep felt confidence to beg this favor...

    (State your prayer request here.)

    O Mary,
    conceived without sin,
I come to your throne of grace
    to share the fervent devotion
    of your faithful Mexican children
who call to Thee under the glorious title "Guadalupe" -
the Virgin who crushed the serpent.

    Queen of Martyrs,
    whose Immaculate Heart was pierced
    by seven swords of grief,
    help me to walk valiantly
amid the sharp thorns strewn across my path.
Invoke the Holy Spirit of Wisdom
to fortify my will to frequent the Sacraments so that,
    thus enlightened and strengthened,
I may prefer God to all creatures
and shun every occasion of sin.

    Help me,
as a living branch of the Vine
    that is Jesus Christ,
    to exemplify His divine charity
always seeking the good of others.
    Queen of Apostles,
    aid me to win souls
for the Sacred Heart of my Savior.
    Keep my apostolate fearless,
    dynamic, and articulate,
to proclaim the loving solitude of Our Father in Heaven
so that the wayward may heed His pleading
    and obtain pardon,
through the merits of Your Merciful Son,
    Our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Amen.

Thank you for posting this Carol :)

Almost everything in this image is amazing and miraculous. I watched a DVD on it and it was spectacular. I don't know for sure, but I did a little web searching and found that the year 1887 was the year of the birth of Charles the I/IV (1st and 4th). He was the last Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary. He was also beatified by the Catholic Church in 2004. It is interesting that the crown on the tilma from Guadalupe faded that year. Was he perhaps the last of the Catholic monarchs? Was this a sign that the monarchy system was about to be disassembled after World War I? Surely there must be a meaning for the crown to fade. Heaven doesn't make mistakes. With the ousting of the Catholic monarchy system, almost all governments of the world were void of Christianity and man-centered. Interestingly there are many prophecies that indicate during/after the Chastisement the monarchy system will be reinstalled.

Praetorian, Your welcome and thank you. That is very interesting. I agree that everything in this image is amazing and miraculous!

Here is a short video which on the Tilma. The presenter offers more information on the constellations which is also very interesting.

I am hope that others will post other pieces of information also.

I forgot to mention that in the video the presenter states something similar to what Praetorian stated about the crown but the presenter's comment is about the stars, the sun and the moon. He states that they are fading in the image but the image of the Virgin is not. He feels that this is symbolic of scripture, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words shall not pass away". Luke 21:33. I think that this is additional proof that Praetorian may be correct on his reasoning for why the crown faded.

Another amazing feature is that the painting remains 98.6F degrees no matter what the temperature is.

According to the following article, the crown was an embellishment painted on later. Apparently everything that has been fading on the tilma are the painted on embellishments added on, not the tilma as miraculously "painted" by Our Lady :)

Thank you. Yes, this is stated in the first article that I posted which I forgot about. I am not certain though if these embellishments were added because of deterioration. Still miraculous, either way in my opinion.

I realize that this is from Wikipedia but I read it the other day when Praetorian posted so I am not certain what exactly happened. I still like your thoughts Praetorian. Paintings are often refurbished through the years so I believe that it is very possible that these features were fixed so to speak but any manmade touchups are not lasting the way that the image of the virgin herself is and for some reason only these areas mentioned have faded to begin with.

    The crown ornament[edit]
The image had originally featured a 12-point crown on the Virgin's head, but this disappeared in 1887-88. The change was first noticed on 23 February 1888, when the image was removed to a nearby church.[41] Eventually a painter confessed on his deathbed that he had been instructed by a clergyman to remove the crown. This may have been motivated by the fact that the gold paint was flaking off of the crown, leaving it looking dilapidated. But according to the historian David Brading, “the decision to remove rather than replace the crown was no doubt inspired by a desire to 'modernize' the image and reinforce its similarity to the nineteenth-century images of the Immaculate Conception which were exhibited at Lourdes and elsewhere… What is rarely mentioned is that the frame which surrounded the canvas was amended to leave almost no space above the Virgin's head, thereby obscuring the effects of the erasure."[42] it is unclear for the reason why the frame was adjusted to lower the frame, giving the impression that the crown's covered area would not be easily noticed.

A different crown was installed to the image. On 8 February 1887, a Papal bull from Pope Leo XIII granted permission a Canonical Coronation of the image, which occurred on 12 October 1895.[43] Since then the Virgin of Guadalupe has been proclaimed "Queen of Mexico", "Patroness of the Americas", "Empress of Latin America", and "Protectress of Unborn Children" (the latter two titles given by Pope John Paul II in 1999).[44][45] Under this title, she was also proclaimed "Heavenly Patroness of the Philippines" on 16 July 1935 by Pope Pius XI both witnessed and signed by Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, a designation he later rescinded on 12 September 1942 upon becoming Pope Pius XII.

I really love that this was brought up, as I just saw this a couple of days ago. I never knew about the eyes, heartbeat (seriously??!!) or body temperature. It's truly amazing! It makes me even more excited for the sign of the woman clothed with the sun starting this year! :notworthy:

I thought that the prayer that I posted was very fitting for what see happening currently.

I think that writers of the original article feel that any natural fading takes away from the miraculous-ness of the painting but when you consider Praetorian's idea and the presenter in the video, I think it adds to it.

The phenomenal conversion immediately following the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico is unprecedented in the history of Christianity. At that time, about 5 million Catholics were lost from the Church due to the Protestant Revolt in Europe, but their numbers were more than replaced within 10 years by over 9 million Aztec converts to Catholicism. There is no other explanation for this phenomenon.

Many believe this is a foreshadowing of the great conversion to Catholicism that will take place in Russia as told to Sr. Lucy. When this conversion happens it will be so astounding, people will have no other explanation for it except to recognize it as miraculous and give Our Lady's Immaculate Heart the honor God desires for it.

This is another miraculous piece of information (from Wikipedia):
    Protection from damage
Roman Catholic sources claim many miraculous and supernatural properties for the image such as that the tilma has maintained its structural integrity over nearly 500 years against soot, candle wax, incense, constant manual veneration by devotees and the historical fact that the image was displayed without any protective glass for the first 115 years; while replicas normally last only about 15 years before suffering degradation;[91] that it repaired itself with no external help after a 1791 nitric acid that spilled on the top right of the image causing considerable damage but left the aureola of the Virgin intact.

Furthermore, on 14 November 1921 a bomb hidden within a basket of flowers brought by anti-Catholic secularist damaged the altar, but left the tilma unharmed. A brass standing Crucifix, bent in the explosion, is now preserved at the shrine museum and is believed to be miraculous among devotees

MORNING OFFERING TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Heart of my Mother, Our Lady of Guadalupe, I unite to thy purity, thy sanctity, thy zeal and thy love, all my thoughts, words, acts, and sufferings this day, that there may be nothing in me that does not become through thee, a pleasure to Jesus, a gain to souls, and an act of reparation for the offenses against thy Heart.

I read somewhere that the stars as they appear on the Tilma in this miraculous picture entered the same formation starting 20th November 2016, which happened to be the Feast of Christ the King. The formation of the stars shown on the Tilma are reportedly exactly as seen in the sky at the time of the miraculous image; but as seen from above not as seen from the earth; and the SIGN will be complete on 23rd September 2017. I understand it is to do with the star that represents Jesus within that formation. Sorry, I am not very good at articulating; but hope you see what I mean.

It is funny someone should post saying the images fade in about 15 years. I took my mothers Guadalupe image into my home after she died. No one else in the family wanted it. But I think the image is fading. I do love that image, and think it is the closest image to how Blessed Mother looks. Of course she has colouring that is similar to Mexicans; but I think Blessed Mother will not have been like a white European woman in the first place.

I am astounded at how the Guadalupe image so closely matches the description of 'The Woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet." Surely this is the woman spoken of in the Book of Revelation. Praised be Jesus and Mary.

On 12th December, I brought my picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe to Holy Mass and asked the Priest if the picture could be placed at the front of the Church on account of the memorial of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Praise God, he agreed. :)

Then after Holy Mass, there were four of us who stayed and offered Holy Rosary in front of the image of Guadalupe. I asked if we could unite with the people of USA who were asked to pray on 12th December for an end to abortion in USA. (y)

So you had one little group holding out our hands across the shiny sea in prayer for an end to abortion in USA. :D

Thank you Blessed Mother for all you do and endure for the sake of our salvation. We love you Blessed Mother.
